Habs sign Peter Budaj to Two-year Deal

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier announced Friday the signing of netminder Peter Budaj to a two-year contract (2011-12 and 2012-13). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Budaj, 28, played a total of 45 games with the Colorado Avalanche in 2010-11. He posted a record of 15 wins, 21 losses and 4 overtime losses. Budaj compiled a 3.20 goals-against average and a .895 save percentage.

In six NHL seasons, Budaj recorded 101 wins, including nine by shutout, in 242 regular season games with the Avalanche since he first joined the NHL in 2005-2006. The 6’1’’ and 200 lbs goaltender maintained a 2.83 goals against average and a .902 save percentage. Budaj had a career high 31 wins in 57 games with the Avalanche in 2006-07.

Born in Banska Bystrica, Czech Republic (now Slovakia), Budaj was a second-round selection, 63rd overall, by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
