Habs Weekly Player Watch: Plekanec, Subban, Markov, Ryder, Price

MONCTON, N.B. – So far this season, the Montreal Canadiens have played 28 games and have a record of 19 wins, 5 losses and 4 overtime/shootout losses. They’re currently on a five-game winning streak and are ranked first overall in the Eastern Conference with 42 points.

Players to Watch for the Week of March 17 to March 23, 2013

The Canadiens will play three games during the week of Sunday, March 17 to Saturday, March 23, 2013. Listed below are some players to watch during the upcoming week:

Tomas Plekanec

Plekanec is currently on a four-game point streak with two goals and three assists. So far this season, he has 20 points (12 goals, 8 assists) in 28 games.

P.K. Subban

Subban recorded five points in his last three games (one power play goal and four assists) for a total of 20 points (7 goals, 13 assists) in 22 games so far this season. P.K. Subban and Andrei Markov are both tied for the lead among all Canadiens players with five power play goals each.

Andrei Markov

Before playing their last game against the New Jersey Devils, Markov was on a five-game point streak with five assists. So far this season, he has 18 points (5 goals, 13 assists) in 28 games.

Michael Ryder

Ryder has five points (two goals, three assists) in his last four games. Combining his totals from the Dallas Stars and the Montreal Canadiens, he is currently leading the Habs with 23 points (8 goals, 15 assists) in 27 games.

Carey Price

Goaltender Carey Price is definitely on a hot streak this season and is on a four-game winning streak. His record so far this year is 15 wins, 4 losses and 3 overtime/shootout losses. Peter Budaj has also been very impressive this season with 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 shootout loss.

Of the ten goals they tallied in the three games they played last week, four of them were recorded on the power play. However, three of the six goals they had scored against them last week were recorded while they were a man down.

 

Listed below are their upcoming three games:

Tuesday, March 19th – Buffalo Sabres at Montreal Canadiens

So far this season, the Canadiens and Sabres have played each other twice with both teams winning once. In those two games, Tomas Plekanec recorded four points (two goals, two assists).

Thursday, March 21st – Montreal Canadiens at New York Islanders

The Canadiens and Islanders have faced each other twice so far this season with New York winning both of those games. In those two games, P.K. Subban tallied three points (one goal, two assists), while Michael Ryder racked up three assists in their last matchup on March 5th.

Saturday, March 23rd – Buffalo Sabres at Montreal Canadiens

This will be the second time the Canadiens and Sabres will play each other in four days. They will also face each other on Tuesday.
