► Pacioretty Expects Breakouts
Despite recording point totals similar to that of seasons past, Max Pacioretty has been constantly under fire, and he expects one of his former linemates and a key blueliner to breakout this season.- According to All Habs alumni Joey Alfieri (TSN 690), Pacioretty mentioned that this season would be an auspicious one for former Rouyn-Noranda Huskies player Sven Andrighetto and former CHL champion Nathan Beaulieu.
- “Pacioretty expects Andrighetto and Beaulieu to have breakout seasons in 2016-17,” Alfieri noted via his Twitter account earlier in the week.
- Last season, Andrighetto spent time on each line, most notably the first for a prolonged period of time, and recorded seven goals and 17 points in 44 games in his first extended stint in the NHL.
- Beaulieu ranked third in points among Canadiens defencemen, proceeding Subban and Markov. He scored a pair of markers, adding 17 assists to that total.
► He’ll Never Leave
- Despite leaving the city that he loved, and the city that returned the favour, P.K. Subban has another message for the people of Montreal, one that will bring joy to many.
- While launching his new clothing line with RW&CO, Subban was interviewed by 98,5 FM, and gave a heartwarming message to the city.
- “I’m never ever leave gonna Montreal so that’s not gonna happen, I have way too many friends here, way too many ties to the city,” he told the radio station. “You know what, whenever I come back it never feels like I left.”
- Subban’s clothing will be available this coming Monday, featuring a complete line of suits, with multiple options.
- “This collection was created to empower men. When I wear a suit, I always feel empowered, I feel confident and that’s what I want the mean wearing my suits to feel,” Subban said.
► DSP Saw It Coming
- Devante Smith-Pelly’s time in Montreal was one of ebbs and mostly flows. During that time however, he sensed P.K. Subban’s departure was imminent well prior to the deal that sent Shea Weber to Montreal.
- On an episode of ‘Cabbie Presents’ on TSN, Smith-Pelly replied quite honestly when questioned on his opinion of the Subban-Weber trade. “Me being there and seeing how your best player gets treated sometimes, it’s like: Why? I could see that his personality and the coach’s personality just didn’t really work,” he told Cabbie Richards.
- Originally transcribed by @3rdperiodsuits on Twitter, the former Duck and Canadiens winger also appeared on Richards’ podcast, stating that it felt really “old school” during his stay in Montreal.
► Ratings Released For Netminders
- Carey Price’s MVP season was unprecendented, so even after missing the majority of the 2016 season, he sits atop NHL 17’s ratings for goaltenders.
- EA Sports released their ratings of NHL backstops with Carey Price standing, and somehow now injuring himself, atop in a dead heat with Jonathan Quick who also had a 93 rating.
- Newly-minted Vezina Trophy winner Braden Holtby slotted in just behind the pair, deadlocked with Henrik Lundqvist at 92 overall.
- Corey Schneider (91), Pekka Rinne (91), Corey Crawford (90), Marc-Andre Fleury (90), Tukka Rask (89), and Ben Bishop (89) rounded out the top ten rated goaltenders in the 2016-17 edition of the game.
- Price was the game’s best netminder in last year’s version of the NHL franchise, however, he did drop one rating point over the past 12 months.
► You Hear That? That’s People Leaving (Or Saying They’re Leaving)
- As if there was any doubt over whether the NHL would implement sponsors on jerseys, the league’s public relations firm released that there will be a sponsor on the World Cup of Hockey jerseys.
- The league announced that SAP, the company aiding the NHL in refurbishing their website in terms of statistics, will be the official sponsor of each team in the tournament.
- The patch will be displayed on both shoulders of the teams’ jerseys, this being the first time in the history of an NHL-controlled league that teams will have sponsors.
- The league released an official statement via Twitter “SAP will be official sponsor for all game-worn home and away jerseys for duration of the tournament.”
- The league also said that they will be “gauging fan reaction” which might be the most pointless process to be proposed by the league since the World Cup of Hockey.
► Addison Dealt
- The Windsor Spitfires have acquired Canadiens farmhand Jeremiah Addison from the Ottawa 67’s, this being the third organization Addison he will be a part of in his OHL career.
- The former seventh round draft pick in the 2015 draft scored 27 goals and added 29 assists in 67 games in his fourth season in junior hockey, ranking second on the team in both categories.
- The power forward will be joining fellow Canadiens draft pick Mikhail Sergachev in Windsor, should the Canadiens first round pick not crack the Canadiens roster out of camp.
- Addison increased his goal total by eight and his point total by nine since joining the Canadiens organization and turning eighteen years old.
