On this day in hockey history… 1970 — Phil Esposito scored the 500th goal in Bruins playoff history. 1973 — Henri Richard set an NHL Stanley Cup record for most career playoff games, as the Canadiens lost 7-4 to Chicago in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Richard broke the record of 164 held by Red Kelly. 1995 — Jaromir Jagr became the first European player to lead the NHL in scoring as the Penguins lost 4-3 to the visiting Panthers. |

► Bergevin Watching and Listening
- Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin said that he would listen to offers but is not actively pursuing any major changes to his roster after the Habs horrendous season. “If someone wants to call me about any player, for sure, I’m listening,” Bergevin said.
- The same cautious approach will apply to Bergevin’s free agency strategy. Bergevin said, “On July 1, this is an important date for me. I’ll be very patient. I am going to watch. If I see that we can do something that can help the team without weakening it, we’ll do it. […] You really have to be careful.”
► Carbonneau Not Shy
- Former Montreal Canadiens great turned RDS analyst Guy Carbonneau hasn’t minced words lately when giving his thoughts on the state of the Canadiens, with his latest comments coming about stars of the past and the team’s current captain.
- “When I played for the Canadiens, there was direct contact between the former stars of the team and players,” he told Le Journal de Montreal. “They were regularly seen around the team and we appreciated their presence. It was positive.”
- “I don’t mean this badly. I just think that the Canadiens management should have interest in creating a closening between former and current players.”
- When asked about Max Pacioretty contacting him, he had this to say, “No, he hasn’t called me. I know he isn’t forced to, but in my day, I happened to talk to a man like Jean Beliveau during the most difficult times, even though I was kind of reserved.”
► Fourth Pick Available
- The Edmonton Oilers have been horrific for a long time, turning from hilarious to depression inducing in the last two years or so. With that in mind, it looks like they’re address their needs at the upcoming draft.
- According to TSN insider Darren Dreger, the Oilers will be looking to deal their fourth overall pick to move down in the 2016 draft.
- “Toronto, Winnipeg, Columbus very unlikely to consider trading their top-3 draft picks. Edmonton’s pick, fourth overall, is definitely in play,” tweeted Dreger.
- According to reports, there’s a ‘real chance’ the pick is traded, with Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli telling CHED, “There’s a real legitimate chance to look to move this pick, to improve our team – to get bigger or to get a ‘D’ and get something else.”
- Many have speculated that Montreal would be a fit, considering the superfluity of puck moving defenceman projected to be available at ninth overall.
► Lehkonen Omitted From Finnish Roster
- Arturri Lehkonen’s breakout 2015-16 campaign was due for a proverbial cherry on top of it, however the Finn wasn’t even given the opportunity.
- With the World Championships upcoming, Arturri Lehkonen wasn’t given an invite to the Finnish team, who has a roster containing some NHL players.
- Lehkonen scored 16 goals and 33 points during Frolunda’s regular season, which led to a playoffs that saw the former second-round pick score 11 goals and tally 19 points in 16 games and win the SHL championship.
- The 20-year old set a Frolunda Indians playoff record with those 19 points, eclipsing Daniel Alfredsson’s previous record of 18.
- Marc Bergevin confirmed rumours that the Canadiens and Lehkonen are in contract discussions. The same applies to Martin Reway.

► Markov Has Another Child
- In a season that saw Andrei Markov go through more vexations than any before, which he has not been inured for, but at least the veteran defenceman’s season had a happy ending.
- The 37-year old’s partner, Sonya Soneckha, gave birth to the couple’s fourth child, this time a girl.
- Arkov announced the good news through an Instagram post because that’s how it’s supposed to be done now.

► Orpik Suspended Three Games
- Former Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Brooks Orpik has been suspended three games by the department of player safety for his hit to the head of Pens blueliner Oli Maata.
- Orpik will be omitted from the Washington Capitals’ lineup for games three, four and five, two of which will be in the place he used to call home.
- Although the suspension was entirely deserved as it was a clear hit to the head, while being late, Caps head coach Barry Trotz had the opinion he wanted people to see on display.
- “I’m disappointed obviously with the suspension,” Trotz said. “Looking at it as Brooks said, it was a little bit late. I’m more disappointed in the length than anything.”
- Orpik was given a two minute minor for interference on the play, with Maata missing game three of the series and his presence is unknown for the remaining games of the series.
► Leafs Finally Sign Zaitsev
- The Toronto Maple Leafs have had quite the week garnering the first overall pick they the draft lottery they were most heavily favoured to win and now signing a young blueliner out of the KHL
- Nikita Zaitsev has signed a one-year entry-level deal with the Leafs following a seven-year stay in the KHL, the only professional league’s sweaters that have ever donned his name.
- Zaitsev, who is currently in camp with team Russia in for the World Hockey Championships, will likely be competing for, if not assured, a roster spot come the 2016-17 campaign in Toronto.
- In 46 games with CSKA Moscow last season, the smooth skating defenceman found the back of the net eight times and recorded 26 points.

► Rangers Re-Sign Raanta
- The New York Rangers have put impregnable backstop Antti Raanta under contract, of which the financial terms and term have not been disclosed.
- Raanta suited up for 24 games last season while backing Henrik Lundqvist, in which he recorded a 2.25 GAA and .919 save percentage with an 11-6-2 record.
- The Finnish netminder appeared in three postseason games that saw Lundqvist get pulled, putting up a 2.56 GAA and a .895 save percentage, both better stat lines than the Rangers starter albeit in 111 less minutes of ice time.
- Raanta, who spent the first five years of his career in Sweden, was a Stanley Cup Champion when the Blackhawks prevailed last season, subsequently getting traded in that offseason.
► Extension for Semin
