► Preseason Schedule
- The Canadiens will open the preseason schedule with a game to be held in Quebec City versus rival Boston Bruins on September 18th. It is the first of eight exhibition games.
- Game times and dates available here.
► High Praise for Victor Mete
- Victor Mete was paired with Shea Weber on Friday. Coach Claude Julien was in experimental mode on Friday looking to evaluate his young players by putting them in positions they may find themselves occupying in the future.
- Fans should be cautioned reading too much into the defense duos and line trios as Julien said that he “has other options” to test.
- It does appear that deserving young players will get genuine opportunities to prove their value.
- If Mete becomes a top pairing candidate someday, the 100th overall 2016 4th round selection could become a draft steal.
"You want to try a player in a place you think he can play in when he does get a chance,"–Julien, in French, on trying Mete with Weber.

► Ovechkin’s statement on Olympic participation
- Alex Ovechkin released a statement via the Washington Capitals on the NHL’s decision on participation in the Olympics.
- Ovechkin wrote, “I am very disappointed that IOC, IIHF and NHL put me and all NHL players in this position when some of the best players in world do not have chance to play in the Olympic Games.”
- He continued, “There is nothing like Olympic Games. It is still my dream to win an Olympic Gold medal for my country. I hope things will change and all of us will have a chance to go again in 2022.”
► Duchene Reports to Training Camp
- Matt Duchene has reported to the Pepsi Center as the Colorado Avalanche opened their training camp. But the 26-year-old looks none too happy about it.
- Duchene’s appearance in Denver is counter to rampant speculation that he would skip camp.
- Duchene took no questions but delivered a short statement saying, “I’m here to honor my contract, I’m here for the respect of the fans and I’m here for my teammates.”
- It is believed that general manager Joe Sakic is still actively shopping Duchene in search of a defenseman.
- Here is Duchene posing for the Avs Pepsi vision ads. As a Coca-Cola man, he seems uncommitted to the Pepsi brand.
► Pastrnak signs
- David Pastrnak ends the speculation and signs a six-year $40 million deal with the Boston Bruins.
- The annual average value on this contract for the 21-year-old winger is $6.667 million.
► Chihuahua Homage
- The QMJHL Chicoutimi Sagueneens pay homage to Shea Weber‘s race with a horse with a hilarious tongue in cheek race with the fiercest purse sized dog, a Chihuahua
