	On this day in hockey history… 1952 — Maurice Richard scored a penalty shot goal 12 seconds into the game, and goaltender Gerry McNeil recorded his 8th career shutout as the Canadiens won 3-0 over the Black Hawks at Chicago.  1961 — Boston rookie Willie O’Ree, the first black player in NHL history, scored his first career goal (the game winner) as the Bruins beat Montreal, 3-2 in Boston. 2004 — Columbus Blue Jackets General Manager Doug MacLean announed that he was relinquishing head coaching duties for the club and named Gerard Gallant as the interim head coach.

► Winter Classic threat

• A Connecticut man was arrested after weapons were discovered in his vehicle parked in the employee lot outside Gillette Stadium on Friday. According to police, Matthew Bromson, 48, was acting suspiciously which prompted the investigation.

► Nilan stays true to his alliances

• Chris Nilan played ten seasons as a member of the Montreal Canadiens organization and two with the Bruins so on Thursday night he donned a jersey that was a genuflection of his time spent with both.
• The former 21-goal scorer wore a uniform that had a Canadiens front and had a Bruins backside with his name on it, as a jersey usually does.
• Prior to the start of the game the 57-year old tore away the perfidiousness and put on a Canadiens jersey, the jersey that he spent the majority of his career wearing.
• Nilan spent the first nine seasons of his NHL career in Montreal prior to a tête-a-tête with then head coach Jean Perron that saw the team’s general manager, Serge Savard, deal the enforcer to New York.
• After ending up in Boston for a pair of seasons, the Habs picked the Northeastern University alum off waivers to end his career in Montreal.
• He stands alone in ninth place all time for penalty minutes with 3,043, over 900 minutes from Tiger Williams for the most all-time.

► Tarp lifted

• A lot of things go into staging the Winter Classic, and those people don’t get recognized, the Montreal Gazette’s Stu Cowan sat down with a place setter of the event.
• While on the day before Friday’s showdown between the Bruins and Canadiens Don Renzulli didn’t have much to work with until the next day “We were 65 degrees (Fahrenheit) here Christmas Eve, we couldn’t make ice. Then it changed and now we got ice everywhere. They worked hard on the ice yesterday.”
• He is the NHL’s senior Vice President of events and is an integral part to all stagings.
• “Everybody keeps asking me what the perfect day is … 30 degrees (Fahrenheit),” he told Cowan “And overcast on game day is the perfect day for us so we don’t have anything to worry about.”
• Every event has been a learning experience for him “But when we started the first year, we didn’t own anything. […] Since then, we’ve really worked with the same crews all the way through. […]”

► Bourque rejoices

• Ray Boruque had a long and illustrious career that ended with a Stanley Cup and a conglomeration of records that stand to this day and he looks upon said year’s fondly.
• “[The Bruins] go to two Finals and we play Edmonton twice, and then Pittsburgh goes back­-to­-back and plays Minnesota and Chicago,” he told The Fourth Period “No disrespect to any of those teams, but I wouldn’t mind that match­up instead of the of the Oilers.”
• The former eighth overall pick has fond memories of his triumphant return home “I used to go back [to Montreal] for the summers back then. So, finally beating Montreal. And I got there in ’79, so we didn’t have that much success until ’87, ’88, so for me, it was such a nice summer, the summer of ’88.”
• “Well, for me, I bleed Black and Gold. I left for a short time there, but I’ve been wearing this jersey for quite a while with the alumni. […] I live 25 minutes from the city, and I’m not going anywhere,” he said of once more donning the Bruins jersey.

► Calvert out four weeks

• The assailable Columbus Blue Jackets have lost a piece to their mediocre puzzle with winger Matt Calvert out for the next four weeks, minimum.
• The 26-year old sprained a knee Tuesday night in a game against the Dallas Stars that saw his team take down one of the league’s powerhouses.
• The Blue Jackets placed Calvert on the I.R. and activated goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky off the injured reserve.
• It’s an unfortunate, yet allegorical, bump in the road for Calvert who reached his career-high in goals last season with 13 and had six in 39 games in Ohio this season.

► Boychuk to IR.

• A major piece to the New York Islanders blueline went down this week when Johnny Boychuk was put on injured reserve with an ever-vague upper-body injury.
• Despite the amorphousness of the team’s diagnosis most are speculating that it’s a shoulder injury as the defenceman went shoulder-first into the boards in a game again just the Sabres Thursday night.
• Other indications on what the injury could possibly be could be were ruled out, unless you haven’t attended third grade which might be a problem “It could’ve been a lot worse, his neck or his head …,”
• After setting career-highs in both points and goals last season Boychuck was off to another solid start in 2015-16 with three goals and 14 points in 38 games.
• Boychuk took the slapshot that put Brendan Gallagher out of the lineup for six weeks with two fractured fingers.

► 2,000 for Diving

• The Vancouver Canucks’ Janick Hansen was warned by the league for diving in a game against the Penguins earlier on in the season and second time’s a charm for the right winger.
• After garnering a two-minute embellishment penalty against Tampa Bay Hansen was fined $2,000 by the NHL, as is the policy in the league for the second time.
• Zack Smith and Teemu Pulkinen are the only other two players to be finned by the league for diving this season.
• Should he be caught red-handed once more he will be discerned a $3,000 fine.
• The Rodovre, Denmark native is on pace for his best season since the lockout shortened campaign of 2012-13; he has 12 goals and 22 points in 38 games so far throughout 2015-15.
