On this day in hockey history 1979 — Boston officially retired Bobby Orr’s uniform #4 during a ceremony preceding an exhibition game between Bruins and Soviet Wings at Boston Garden. 1992 — Chicago’s 27-year-old rookie goalie Dominik Hasek recorded his first career NHL shutout, to lead the Blackhawks to a 2-0 win against the Maple Leafs, at Chicago Stadium. 1998 — Dale Hunter had up three assists to give him 1,000 career NHL points. The milestone came in a Capitals’ 4-1 win over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers. Hunter became the first NHL player to collect 1,000 points and 3,000 career penalty minutes.
