► Notes from Canadiens Practice

  • Shea Weber took a therapy day after playing almost 30 minutes in a 3 to 2 SO win vs Buffalo on Thursday.  With back-to-back games coming up versus Washington on Saturday and the NY Rangers on Sunday, it was a prudent move.
  • David Schlemko skated with his teammates on Friday, but the time frame for his return to play is still uncertain.
  • Lines and defense pairings at practice on Friday

Pacioretty – Drouin – Gallagher
Hudon – Plekanec – Lehkonen
Galchenyuk – Danault – Shaw
Byron – De La Rose – Hemsky

Mitchell

Mete – Davidson
Alzner – Petry
Benn – Streit

Morrow – Schlemko

Price
Montoya

  • Claude Julien has already confirmed that Carey Price will start vs Washington

► Youthful exuberance

  • Jacob De La Rose and Charles Hudon graduated from the AHL system to crack the opening day roster.
  • 19-year-old Victor Mete entered camp under the radar. He was able to carve out a roster spot with his play that has had the radio call in shows humming with excitement and questions of his ability to compete at the NHL level. Thus far, he has been able to earn his coach’s trust.

Martinsen takes flight to the Hawks

  • Andreas Martinsen‘s time with the Canadiens has come to an end when Marc Bergevin sent him to the Blackhawks in exchange for 25-year-old Kyle Baun. Baun has reported to the Laval Rocket and was in the opening game line-up.

Deslauriers comes home

  • Nicolas Deslauriers returns to his home province to join the Laval Rocket after Marc Bergevin dealt defenceman Zach Redmond to the Sabres to land the rugged left winger. Deslauriers is in the last season of a two-year $1.55M$ deal, paying him $775,000 annually.
  • Deslauriers saw action in the Rocket’s inaugural game.

► George Foreman looks to grill Seagal

  • 69-year-old George Foreman has challenged 65-year-old Steven Seagal to a 10-round pay-per-view fight in Las Vegas. Is it because Seagal left the U.S. to become a Russian citizen as a friend of Vladamir Putin? Or is it just a cynical money grab. Either way, it would be a great show.

►Longtime NHL broadcaster passes

  • Dallas Stars broadcaster Dave Strader sadly lost his battle with cancer.
  • He is survived by his wife, Colleen, and three sons and two grandchildren. But in many ways, the man known simply — and with great affection — as ‘The Voice’ is survived by an entire game.

A returning unsung hero

  • All Habs Hockey Magazine welcomes home one of its own, Matt Smith. The All Habs staff writer has returned home from hurricane relief with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Matt’s dedication to his country and humanitarian efforts are the values all organizations love to have on their team. Welcome home Matt!

Shipachyov is Chicago bound

  • The once coveted center Vadim Shipachyov, who signed a two-year, nine million dollar deal this summer was sent to the AHL by the Vegas Golden Knights.

  • The center didn’t require waivers which is why many were saying it is just a paper transaction to allow Vegas to meet roster numbers. Yet even after the Calvin Picard waiver, Shipachyov has not been seen with the team in Dallas. Perhaps another move will be needed before Shipachyov gets his chance with Vegas.

► Mullet Man

  • Jaromir Jagr has signed with the Calgary Flames.  Did he decide to sign in Calgary due to the logo looking like his favorite hairstyle? Perhaps. But at $1 million, it’s worth the haircut to the cap.

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!

  • For our Canadian followers, this weekend marks Thanksgiving.
  • Our friends at the AHL Report’s were really excited about the holiday and spoke at length of their favorite holiday foods during Rocket Sport’s newest podcast “From the Press Box” Have a listen!
  • We at All Habs Hockey Magazine are thankful for our great fans and wish you all a safe and joyous long weekend shared with your loved ones.
