On this day in hockey history… 1986 — Buffalo’s Gilbert Perreault played in the 1,191st (and final) game of his 17-year NHL career as the Sabres lost to the Quebec Nordiques 3-1. 1999 — Seven months after retiring as a player, Wayne Gretzky was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, along with referee Andy Van Hellemond and builder Scotty Morrison. 2003 — Montreal Canadiens beat the Oilers 4-3 at the first outdoor game in NHL history, played before a record crowd of 57,167 fans in Edmonton.

- The Canadiens skated the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard on Sunday morning prior to their matchup with the New York Islanders.
- Torrey Mitchell and Devante Smith-Pelly were absent from practice both suffering from lower body injuries.

► Who is Bud Holloway?
- With injuries piling up, the Canadiens called up forwards Sven Andrighetto from the St. John’s IceCaps. Andrighetto is known to Canadiens fans having spent 12 games with the big club in 2014-15. But who is George ‘Bud’ Holloway?

► Domi gracious towards McCarron
- Max Domi and Michael McCarron were teammates in London for less than two seasons and the rookie-of-the-year candidate was very complementary towards the 6-foot-6-inch centreman.
- “Honestly, the Canadiens are fortunate to have a player like him in their organization.”
- “He was my center player last year in London before being traded to the Oshawa Generals. I had a very good relationship with Michael’” said the Arizona phenom “I drove him to the rink every day. He’s an amazing guy and he works extremely hard. All he has in mind winning. “
- “He will do whatever is asked of him. He’s is the type of player that a coach can use everywhere in the lineup. He plays shorthanded and the powerplay. He can also jump on the ice with less than a minute to protect a one-goal lead.” admitted the former first round pick.
► Olstead passes
- The Canadiens family has taken quite the hit over the past twelve months and this week we learned of another loss.
- The Habs organization lost Bert Olmstead at 89 years old this week.
- The Hall of Famer hoisted Lord Stanley’s cup five times, four of which were with the Canadiens.
- The Scepter, Saskatchewan native ended his career with 181 goals and 602 points in 848 games and spent eight of his 14 seasons in Montreal.
- NHL commissioner Gary Betman spoke after the unfortunate passing “The National Hockey League family mourns the passing of Bert Olmstead[…] Bert’s passion for the game earned unwavering respect from his teammates; his knowledge of the game once earned him a role as a playing assistant coach; and his skill led to what was then an NHL single-season record for assists: 56 in 1955-56. We send heartfelt condolences and comfort to Bert’s family and friends.”
► Iginla’s not going anywhere
- There was an overabundance of trade rumours circling around Jarome Iginla’s head in the least couple weeks but not any longer.
- The Avalanche assistant captain refused to waive his no movement clause under any circumstances, “Iggy” told Adrian Dater of Bleacher Report, which leaves the Avalanche handcuffed.
- Many linked the veteran with the Montreal Canadiens but another wish was taken out of the ocean for Quebec’s team.
- Most of the reason for Iginla’s stubbornness has it’s roots in his personal life where he has two relatively young kids that he would very much like to spend more time with “[…] we’ve got three kids. At some point, I’d like to do more with them. Right now, I don’t know though.”
- In 18 games this season the 39-year old has seven goals and six assists with a plus-four rating.
► All-Star game adjustments
- All all-star games in general have lost their luster over the past couple years but the NHL is making an attempt to revive the once event.
- The NHL has decided to scrap the draft the preluded each all-star game and turned the Nashville based event into a 3-on-3 tournament with the teams being from each of the NHL’s divisions.
- The tournament will be three 20-minute games that will eventually crown a champion that will be awarded $1 million.
- The teams will be made up of 11 players; six forwards, three defensemen and two goalies, and each team will have a representative at the tournament.
- Luckily for Michel Therrien all of the division leading teams will have their coaches coach their respective divisions.
► Mixing it up
- A couple months ago, after the announcement of the Adidas jersey deal, someone made inverse jersey from those NHL teams are currently wearing and they are interesting.
- The person made sure not to toy too much with the Canadiens’ classic look but still made some changes.
► Hamonic requests a trade
- New York Islanders defenceman Travis Hamonic has decided that family is more important than profession.
- The 25-year old defenceman has asked for a trade out of Long Island for familial reasons.
- Hamonic, a main stay on the Islanders backend for multiple seasons, prefers to be traded to western Canada where his family resides.
- In 342 career NHL games the St. Malo, Manitoba native scored 18 goals and added 96 helpers and has went through the roughest years of the organizations 2010+ existence.
- The 6’2 blueliner became secondary when the ‘Iles acquired Johnny and Nick Leddy from the Bruins and ‘Hawks respectively.
► Boyle contemplating retirement
- Former Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Dan Boyle is contemplating retiring at the end of this season after a 1000+ game career in the NHL.
- The 39-year old defenceman would like to spend more time with his kids, a priority “Nothing is for sure,” Boyle said about calling it a career. “For some guys, it’s physical. For me, physically, I feel fine. It’s mentally, having kids and being away … you miss a lot of things. At a certain point, you don’t want to miss it anymore.”
- In 1033 games in the NHL the Ottawa, Ontario native has scored 153 goals and had 584 points after being undrafted out of college.
