On this day in hockey history… 1943 — Montreal’s famous “Punch Line” played together for the first time — Maurice Richard was up front with Elmer Lach and Toe Blake. It was also the first time Maurice Richard wore uniform No. 9. Canadiens tied 2-2 with Boston in Montreal. 1964 — Emile Francis was named General Manager of the New York Rangers, replacing “Muzz” Patrick. He remained the Rangers’ GM for the next 11 years. 1969 — Rookie Bobby Clarke scored his first career NHL goal, in a 3-3 Flyers’ tie against the Rangers at New York. |

► Lafleur: Subban Not a Team Player
- While the IceCaps broadcaster wanted to talk to Guy Lafleur about his career, the Canadiens legend couldn’t restrain himself from talking about P.K. Subban and Shea Weber.

► No Changes to All-Star Balloting
- Despite last season’s debacle during balloting for the All-Star game, Elliotte Friedman reported that the NHL is not contemplating changes. This lead to the farce that was the John Scott situation that the NHL tried to exploit.
- HNIC analyst Kelly Hrudey said that players cherish the opportunity to play in the annual game and that the NHL created a mockery of the event last season.

► Kypreos: Sergachev Will Return to Junior
- All signs are pointing towards Mikhail Sergachev heading back to junior and joining the Windsor Spitfires, and the Russian defenceman is also on the Russian under-20 team for the Canada-Russia series.
- Sportnet’s Nick Kypreos said that Sergachev returning to junior hockey is a “foregone conclusion.”
- “He had a terrific training camp, but he’s finding himself on the outside looking in as far as ice time is concerned, but I think it’s a foregone conclusion that he will be sent back to Windsor with a great start and a blue line that looks OK,” said Kypreos.
- Few, if not none, were surprised by his inclusion on the team, arguably being the best defenceman selected in the past entry draft along with Jacob Chychrun and Oli Juolevi.
- Should he be on the team, which all indications point to being so, it would be Sergachev’s first under-20 tournament, having played in three under-18 tournaments and two under-17.
- Over 16 games of under-17 and 18 tournament play, Sergachev has recorded one goal and no assists with a combined minus-two rating.
- However in international-Jr. played, the Russian blueliner has flourished, recording four goals and 15 assists for a total of 19 points in 21 games.
► Bergevin Shopping for ‘D’?
- Speculation is that Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin is shopping for a top-4 defenceman to ease the ice-time on Shea Weber and Andrei Markov.
- Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos raised the issue as he expressed his opinion that rookie Mikhail Sergachev would be returned to juinor hockey very soon.
- Kypreos said that the team is very happy with the play of their more senior defencemen but concerned about them breaking down as the season wears on.
► Carr On His Way Back Soon?
- After conceding his place, for a reason foreign to most, to Brian Flynn, Daniel Carr has been failed to be inserted into the lineup past the second games of the season, and has been sent down to St. John’s, however, not for an extended period of time.
- According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, Carr will spend the next couple days, through Wednesday, and then will return with the Canadiens having played four games with the Ice Caps against Rochester and Utica respectively.
- The Sherwood Park, Alberta native spent 23 games with the Canadiens last season, with a juncture missed due to injury, and scored six goals and nine points accompanied by an even rating.
► Halak For Sale
- After controversial player agent Alan Walsh tweeted that his client wasn’t getting enough practice time, Islanders GM Garth Snow let his colleagues in the NHL know that goaltender Jaroslav Halak is on the trade block.
- The Islanders have Halak, Thomas Greiss and Jean-Francois Berube on the roster.
Word tonight is that after @walsha Twitter blast of NYI carrying three goalies, NYI GM has let league know Jaroslav Halak is available.

► Back Together Again
- With fewer than ten games played in the regular season and a stellar record thus far, Michel Therrien has juggled his lines up again, and a past combination has been re-established.
- Max Pacioretty, who prior to that point had five points in six games, was moved on a line, to create a maligned trio, with David Desharnais, with Andrew Shaw playing right wing.
- As a bi-product of having moved Pacioretty with Desharnais and Shaw, Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher, who had five and six points respectively in six games prior to that game, now have Alex Radulov on their wing.
- Tomas Plekanec’s new line is comprised of Paul Byron and rookie Artturi Lehkonen.
- One must give credit when it’s due, the Canadiens pulled out the win one a Shea Weber powerplay marker with Pacioretty, Desharnais and Shaw on the ice, with the former of which getting an assist.
► Tokarski Returns
- Following being dealt to Anaheim in exchange for current Ice Caps Captain Max Friberg, the diminutive netminder has seldom played in the NHL, but now has a gotten a chance.
- Subsequent to the injury to former Maple Leafs backstop Johnathan Bernier, Tokarski has been recalled from the San Diego to back up John Gibson.
- The 27-year old has played a pair of game this season with the Gulls and has recorded a .885 save percentage and a 3.50 goals against average with two wins.
- In his best year to date in the NHL, Tokarski took part in 17 games with the Canadiens in 2014-15, putting up a 2.75 goals against average and a .910 save percentage with a 6-6-4 record.
- There’s currently no timetable for Bernier’s return, the Ducks have only disclosed that the former 11th overall pick has an upper-body muscle injury.
► Trouba States Bound?
- First, the contract negotiations between Jacob Trouba and the Winnipeg Jets were decrepit due to money, then due to not wanting to play on his off-side, but now the former ninth overall pick just doesn’t want to play in Canada.
- According to Bob McKenzie while speaking with TSN 690, Trouba doesn’t want to play in Canada anymore, which would really limit the Jets from tapping into a prospect rich farm system in the Toronto Maple Leafs.
- “ But the vibe they got – and I’m guessing that the vibe was either from the Jets or from Trouba’s agent, but nobody specifically said this – is that ‘Yeah, you know what. All things being equal, this is a player that would much rather play in the United States than in Canada.” Said Mckenzie, transcribed by Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot.
► Pulkkinen Waived
- For the second time this season former 111th overall pick Teemu Pulkkinen has been waived by an NHL team, this time it being by the Minnesota Wild, the team that previously claimed him.
- Pulkkinen, the former 34 goal scorer in the AHL in 2014-15 on the Calder Cup-winning Grand Rapids Griffins, was previously waived by the Red Wings out of the pre-season, losing his roster spot due to the additions of Steve Ott among others.
- For those desiring for the Canadiens to claim the 24-year old, please temper expectations, as the team had the opportunity to claim him the first time he was available, opting not to acquire him.
- However the team does have an open roster spot due to demoting Daniel Carr despite him being poised to be recalled in the immediate future.
