On this day in hockey history 1969 — New York Rangers obtained veteran goaltender Terry Sawchuk from the Detroit Red Wings, in exchange for Larry Jeffery.  1989 — At the NHL Draft held in Minnesota, the Quebec Nordiques used the first overall pick to select Mats Sundin.  1990 — Gil Perreault, Bill Barber, and Fernie Flaman were named as the newest members of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
