Bad news for Weber, Canadiens

  • It was not the news that Canadiens fans wanted to hear. On Wednesday, Claude Julien announced that Shea Weber will not return until the end of January at the earliest.
  •  “I looked into it again, and from what I’m being told, [he’s] probably doubtful until after the All-Star Game,” said coach Julien. “And I say doubtful, but right now he’s still in a boot, and so this is the update I’ve gotten on him.”
  • Weber leads all Canadiens defenseman with six goals, 10 assists in 26 games this season.

Rumours swirl around the captain

  • On Hockey Night in Canada, analyst Nick Kypreos said that Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty is being shopped by general manager Marc Bergevin.
  • Kypreos said that Bergevin would like a younger goal scorer in return in a package that could include draft picks and prospects.
  • If Bergevin is not able to get his asking price by the February 26th trade deadline, Kypreos said that the Canadiens GM would look to make a move at the NHL Entry Draft in Dallas.
  • Pacioretty addressed the trade rumours this way, “You just live your life and worry about your family. If it happens, it happens. I’m very proud of the past success I’ve had in Montreal. I’ve played here for 10 years, and I’ve never gone through something like this. I’ve gone through ups and downs, but never this low.”

A legend lost

  • On Boxing day, the family of Leafs Legend Johnny “China Wall” Bower announced his passing from complications due to pneumonia.
  • The 93 year old Hall of Famer was well known for his love of the game and charitable nature. We at Rocket Sports convey our deepest sympathies to his family friends and fans
