On this day in hockey history… 1924 — Boston Bruins played their first NHL game, a 2-1 win over the Montreal Maroons, at the Boston Arena, in the first NHL game played in the United States. 1988 — L.A. Kings’ Bernie Nicholls set team records with six assists and eight points, and Dave Taylor scored his 7th career hat trick and an assist as the Kings beat the Maple Leafs, 9-3 at the Forum. Wayne Gretzky picked up five assists. 1996 — Rangers’ Wayne Gretzky became the first player in NHL history to reach the 3,000 point plateau (including playoffs), with an assist in a 6-2 win over the Canadiens, at MSG. |

► Price out a minimum of six weeks
- On Monday the Canadiens would be out a minimum of six weeks with his lower-body injury. Of note, Price will not require surgery.
- At a press conference on Monday, Marc Bergevin said, “What he needs is rest and treatment. It will take as long as it takes, but it’s a minimum of six weeks.”
- Last time Price was out of the lineup with an injury he missed three weeks after the original one week timeline; the early return was immediately blamed for this injury keeping him off the ice. Marc Bergevin said that the Canadiens relied on team doctors and Price before reinserting him in the lineup.
- Marc Bergevin said, “When it did happen, I was wondering if he came back too quick. But based on our doctors, based on Carey, based on everything we have…it was not the reason that he got injured, that he came back too quick. But I understand the question, you always wonder if that was the case. We looked into it deeply after and that was not the case.”
- To this point no one is 100 per cent sure what has the Canadiens goaltender undergoing tests on the injury but many have speculated that it is a knee injury.
- The league’s best player last season has had another great start despite the injuries with a 2.06 GAA and a .934 save percentage in 12 starts in which he has only lost a pair of games.
► Goalie swap
- Following Monday’s practice, the Canadiens recalled goalie Zach Fucale from the St, John’s IceCaps. Dustin Tokarski was returned to the IceCaps. Fucale has an unremarkable stat line with a goals against average of 3.12 and a save percentage of .907 this season.
- Mike Condon will likely get all three starts this week. Without a back-to-back on the schedule, Fucale would be watching the action from the bench.
- Meanwhile Tokarski will tune up playing for the St. John’s IceCaps. They have games on the road on December 2, 4 and 5th. Tokarski hasn’t played since October 28th.
- If all goes well Tokarski and Fucale will swap places again ahead of the Canadiens next back-to-back on Dec. 9, 10. It would seem that the plan is for Condon and Tokarski to split those two starts.
► Dudley has an eye for talent
- During Marc Bergevin’s news conference we learned that it was Rick Dudley, Canadiens senior vice president of hockey operations who recommended that the team take a look at goaltender Mike Condon, then on loan to the AHL’s Houston Aeros (Minnesota Wild.)
- Bergevin dispatched Hamilton Bulldogs goalie consultant Vincent Riendeau to see Condon play two games on May 1 and 3, 2013 against Grand Rapids. Condon made both starts with 76 saves on 80 shots.
- Condon signed an entry-level contract with the Canadiens a few days later on May 8, 2013.
► Carr recalled
- The Canadiens have proceeded with the call up of Daniel Carr from the St. John’s Ice Caps to take Bud Holloway’s spot on the NHL roster.
- Like multiple Ice Caps, Carr is off to a flying start with seven goals and 15 points in 20 games with a plus-seven rating.
- Following the demotion of George Holloway, the Union college alumni is now the fourth player to start in the AHL to get a shot with the Canadiens; Sven Andrighetto, Christian Thomas and the aforementioned Holloway were the other three.
- Carr had a solid training camp, being one of the final cuts before the team decided on keeping a roster without any rookies.
► Holloway sent down
- After realizing a childhood dream on Friday night Bud Holloway was sent down less than 24 hours later following playing in his first NHL game.
- Christian Thomas, who was just recently called up, took the 27-year olds spot on the fourth line alongside Brian Flynn and Paul Byron.
- In the sole game Holloway played he spent just over seven minutes on the ice and failed to record a point; he also finished with an even rating.
- George “Bud” Holloway, an alternate captain with the IceCaps, is currently fourth in scoring in the AHL, he’s also the leading scorer on the Ice Caps with Michael McCarron right behind him at a point-per-game pace.
- He wasn’t all that impressive in the minimal time he spent on the ice, recording one shot; he played one shift with Alex Galchenyuk after a penalty kill had Lars Eller on the ice the prior shift.
► Mitchell to begin skating
- Relative to the season prior, the Habs have been injury riddled upfront early on in this season with the likes of Brendan Gallagher, Torrey Mitchell and Devante Smith-Pelly all missing time early on.
- The team did get the beginnings of a boost when Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reported that he expects Torrey Mitchell to begin skating in the next few days.
- Before going down 20 games into the season Mitchell had five goals and 10 points with a plus-five rating on a wildly successful fourth line.
- In his place the Canadiens have tried Holloway, Thomas and potentially Daniel Carr on the fourth line.
► Kristo lighting the lamp
- Danny Kristo has seven goals and six assists for 13 points in 17 games for the Chicago Wolves (St. Louis Blues) of the AHL.
- Kristo was selected in the second round of the 2008 draft, 56th overall by the Canadiens. Kristo fell out of favor with Marc Bergevin for perceived character issues and was shipped off to the Rangers for Christian Thomas.
- Thomas had seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 18 games for the IceCaps prior to his callup.
► P.K. makes another donation
- P.K. Subban advertised the event that took place yesterday at the P.K. Subban atrium to raise money for the children’s hospital, in a great video and it turned out just as good.
- Subban invited everyone to the Children’s hospital to raise money for the patients within its walls and many people were delighted to meet their hero.
- “Listen, all I did was I made a commitment to the hospital in terms of helping them,” said Subban “I like coming on Sundays because I always feel it is a great way to start my week. It just grounds you.”
- One month ago Subban donated $10 million to the Atrium, one million out of his own pocket and the other nine million to be raised.
► Price’s injured woes started in Edmonton
- In Elliotte Friedman’s “Headlines” segment on “Hockey Night in Canada” he gave a little information on pentagon style secret being held by the Canadiens on Carey Price’s injury.
- Friedman noted the origin of Price’s injury “This all began on Oct. 29 in Edmonton. Price stepped on a puck in the warmup, and all the injury problems have come from there.”
► Bournival begins to skate
- Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports has reported that seemingly perpetually banged up Canadiens forward Michaël Bournival has begun skating with his teammates for the first time since the injury. Bournival participated in practice on Monday.
- In Bournival’s absence over the last couple seasons the Habs have really locked down their fourth line in acquiring Devante Smith-Pelly, Torrey Mitchell, Paul Byron and Brian Flynn.
- The Shawinigan, Quebec native broke into the NHL in 2013-14 right out of training camp and had a solid season with 14 points in 60 games.
- The following season saw Bournival get sent down after 25 games, it turns out he had concussion like symptoms, and had nine points in 12 games.
► Markov joins history
- The Montreal Candiens have had a long and storied history of great defenceman with the likes of Larry Robinson, Doug Harvey and Jaroslav Spacek but Andrei Markov has joined history.
- According to the Twitter account StatsCentre the Russian-Born defenceman become the third defenceman in Habs history to reach the 400 assist mark.
- Markov, like his partner P.K. Subban is off to a roaring start with 18 points in 25 games; he’s currently tied for fourth on the team in points and only trailing Subban for points by a blueliner.
- Doug Harvey, who has upwards of 400 helpers, and Larry Robinson, who has 750 career assists, are the only other two players on the list.
