On this day in hockey history… 1954 — Habs GM Frank Selke complained that the league was using “motion pictures” to make decisions, but announced that he would not appeal an 8-game suspension of Bernie Geoffrion, who had been involved in a stick incident vs the Rangers. 1984 — Quebec Nordiques’ three Stastny brothers (Peter, Anton and Marian) all scored goals in an 8-3 win against the Bruins, in Boston Garden. 1999 — Pittsburgh’s Tom Barrasso picked up two assists to become the highest scoring goaltender in NHL history. His 47th and 48th career assists moved him two ahead of Grant Fuhr. |

► Price not ready to start skating
In the past most news surrounding Carey Price has been amorphous to say the least but at least this time there’s a positive spin on the situation.- The goaltender that is the Canadiens’ backstop is said to have his recovery on-route however isn’t ready to commence skating.
- “Carey Price’s rehab is going well,” said Habs head honcho Michel Therrien, “but he is not ready to get back on the ice just yet.”
- According to the team’s original calculation of the time required for the MVP to fully heal, Price was marked to come back next week, as it’s been six weeks since the diagnosis.
- Following a week’s worth of consecutive loses Mike Condon has one his last pair of games while the recently acquired Ben Scrivens is 0-1-0 in his lone start in which he allowed a trio of goals.

► Swell fellow, to say the least
- The pervasive perception of P.K. Subban is he’s the allegorical person when it comes to prorating his wealth and advantages and said perception is no different when it comes to a day so special for he and his teammates.
- According to TSN reporter John Lu, following the Winter Classic he distinctly heard the Habs’ highest paid player advised team equipment manager Pierre Gervais to give his stick to a sick child.
- “I heard [Subban] say to Habs equipment manager ‘I want to make sure [his stick] goes to a sick kid,'” said Lu via his Twitter account.
- The Canadiens blueliner picked up an assist in the team’s win in the Winter Classic.
► Rychel wants out
- On the heels of fellow former first round pick Jonathan Drouin requesting a trade out of Tampa Bay, Kerby Rychel would prefer to egress out of Ohio.
- The beastial forward had, reportedly, made the request prior to training camp this season, but following the announcement by Drouin’s agent (Allan Walsh) Ken Overhardt, Rychel’s agent, followed suit.
- As reported by the media, the former 19th overall pick and his representatives had a meeting with Blue Jackets brass to discuss the reasoning behind him not rising up the team’s depth charts.
- As is parallel with Drouin, there’s no guarantee that he gets moved.
- According to Aaron Portzline, the Rangers, Flames, Leafs, Ducks, Bruins, Red Wings and Canadiens have all shown interest.
- In 18 games this season Rychel has five goals and 18 points in the AHL.
► “If I let him go, somebody will pick him up in days!”- Brian Burke
- In an attempt at demonstrating confidence turned seemingly impetuous decision, Ron Wilson didn’t have a good day at the World Juniors.
- In the pre-game media scrum Wilson had this to say on his Russian counterparts, “Ya, I couldn’t tell you any players on the Russian team, that’s probably a good thing. I don’t know any of their players.” He went on to essentially repeat himself when questioned on the comments.
- The flagrantly non-esoteric remarks by former Maple Leafs head coach Ron Wilson kick-started a rough day that saw former coacher-of-Phil get eliminated by Finland.
- These comments from the former Minnesota North Stars farmhand came after he told the media Canada “shot itself in the foot” with the excessive amount of penalties it took.
► Panthers to get new jerseys
- For all Florida Panther jersey aficionados, the team will reportedly be garnering a new uniform come 2016-17. TSN has confirmed the rumour.
- George Richards of the Miami Herald set the Twitter world momentarily ablaze this weekend when he announced the story noting “People will dig them, going to be a hot seller.” To which most laughed.
- He also described it as a “Very aggressive looking logo.” Which lead to further ridicule, notably from me to my one friend.
- Base on the further information Richards proceeded to disseminated on the world at large, jersey seller Ryan Mackman made a design for the future Panther jersey.

► Pastrnak out again
- The Boston Bruins have looked great this season relative to their pre-season expectations but an expected contributor is out of their lineup once more.
- After recovering from a foot injury in time to attend the WJC to play for the Czechs, David Pastrnak injured his finger before the tournament was out.
- The consternation the team and its fans had about his health were justified when the Bruins consigned the winger to the Providence Bruins of the AHL.
- Pastrnak had four points in 10 games before the Bruins granted him permit trance to got to the WJC, where he had a goal and four points in the same amount of games.
- “I don’t know myself. From what I’m told it’s not a serious thing,” said Bruins head coach Claude Julien.
► Morin to T.O., Panik to Chi-Town
- The erroneous happy reunion between Jeremy Morin and the Chicago Blackhawks is over, again.
- The ‘Hawks shipped the winger to Toronto in exchange for former waiver wire acquisition Richard Panik, formerly of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
- When with the Blackhawks last season, Morin requested a trade from Illinois and was granted his wish when he was traded to Columbus. A couple months later, he was headed to Chicago again in the Brandon Saad deal.
- Panik, a former second round pick, had 17 points in 76 games with Toronto last season and is having a great year in the AHL this season, partly due to the ascendant team he played on, with 25 points in 33 games.
- Morin was the Rockford Ice Hogs’ highest scorer with 22 points in 28 games in his 2015-16 campaign, he had six points in 43 games in the NHL last season.
