On this day in hockey history… 1973 — Bobby Orr had four assists in an 8-0 Boston win against Detroit to give him 456 career assists, the most by any defenseman in NHL history. It was Orr’s 458th game. 1979 — Rookie Wayne Gretzky played against Gordie Howe for the first of four times in their NHL careers. Gretzky went scoreless while Howe picked up one assist in the Hartford Whalers’ 4-0 win over Edmonton. 1988 — Vancouver rookie Trevor Linden scored his first NHL hat trick, and added an assist, in a 7-6 Canucks loss to the North Stars at Minnesota. |

► Slight progress
- The increasing impatience in Habs land got a minor sedative this week when Carey Price hit the ice for the first time since going down with an injury in a loss to the Oilers. Many media were there to witness the event where the star backstop went on to skate without the presence of pucks.
- An improvement was evident as Price practiced with his equipment for the first time; last ice session he was seen with only his pads and gloves.
- In Price’s absence the Canadiens have went 5-1-2 with rookie netminder Mike Condon who, up to his debacle of a game versus the Avalanche, had better stats than the reigning Vezina trophy winner.

► P.K. being P.K.
- In preparation for the January 1st confrontation between the Canadiens and the Bruins and in support of his foundation, P.K. Subban did a little patrolling around the streets, both above and below ground, of Montreal.
- The announcement the league’s fifth highest paid player was shouting was he would be doing a signing at the “Subban atrium” on November 29th to raise money for his charity.
- He was also telling Montrealers to go to his website and purchase a P.K. Subban winter classic jersey, from which the proceeds will also go to charity.
► Prust’s return to Montreal
- Despite not being able to play in tonight’s contest between his former club and the Vancouver Canucks once beloved forward Brandon Prust knows isn’t expecting his number to be put up in the rafters.
- “It’s always good going back to a former place that you played, it was my home for the last three years and we’ll get to see some familiar faces and I’d like to be out there playing for sure but that’s hockey,” said the former Canadiens number eight.
- Prust also took advantage of this game to help out some youngsters saying “No we have a suite, I’m not that much of a legend. [The Brandon Prust foundation] bought a suite for tonight for some kids from the children’s hospital; they’re some kids that are going through some tough times.”
► Like father unlike son
- Safe to say that Jarred Tinordi has not had the start to this season many would have liked with impatience growing from everybody surrounding the situation but the gargantuan blue liner refuses to be put down by the situation.
- “I don’t expect anything. I take it one day at a time. This is difficult, because like everyone else, I’d like to play. But the situation that I find myself in right now is part of the reality of professional sports,” said the former first round pick.
- “The teams that are successful are teams with a lot of depth on the blueline. That’s the price I have to pay to be part of the best team in the National Hockey League,” continued Tinordi.
- The defenceman knows that you can only work on so much in practice, “You can only improve to a certain extent by just practicing. I work a lot with Jean-Jacques (Daigneault) For sure it could help. If you talk to Pateryn, he will tell you that it did him good, but nobody even told me about this possibility [on going on a conditioning stint.”
► That’s unfortunate
- In an event that was the microcosm of Alex Semin’s 2015-16 campaign the struggling forward well off the Canadiens’ bench while attempting a line change.
- Through 12 games the Russian forward has one goal and three points accompanied by a minus-one rating.
- Semin got back into the lineup against the Avalanche and Canucks at the expense of Paul Byron.
► A real barn-burner
- The St. John’s Ice Caps and Toronto Marlies had a legitimate shootout on November 14th as the two teams combined for 17 goals leaving everyone with enhanced stats.
- The Marlies took the contest 9-8 in overtime and Zachary Fucale had a particularly rough night allowing eight goals on 31 shots.

► Greatest goal scorer of the century?
- The Twitter account Sportsnet stats tweeted out an incredible stat about one of the greatest Russian players of all time.
- According to the account, Alexander Ovechkin has scored more goals than anyone else in the league the past 14 years and he’s only been in the league for 10.
- “The great eight” is currently tied with Sergei Fedorov atop the Russian record books with 483 goals.
- In 15 games this season Ovy has eight goals and 16 points on a Capitals team that’s firing on all cylinders.
► Habs-Bruins-esque
- In a complete blowout that saw the Winnipeg Jets fall 7-0 at the hands of the Nashville Predators there was a moment that made Habs fans reminisce about the 21st century golden years of the Habs-Bruins rivalry.
- It all started off a bone-head play by the Jets’ Mark Scheifele, who put the puck into the Pekka Rinne’s nets after the whistle, that the Preds took exception to and a massive brawl ensued.
- A total of 13 players entered the penalty box between the two teams at 4:44 in the third period.
- In the third period there were 90 penalty minutes that were discerned.
