► And Then There Were Three
- The Canadiens AHL affiliate will be moving to Laval for the 2017-18 season. The three finalists for the team name are Patriotes, Rapides, Rocket. Tell us your choice in our poll here.
► This Is News, Right?
- Alex Radulov’s success will play a big part in ensuring the improvement of the Canadiens, and considering he has played in Quebec already, the transition period should be relatively short.
- In a video posted to Instagram, the Russian sniper flexed his French muscles, showing off his ability to speak the law of the land, a place he hopes to restore his name.
- During Radulov’s time as a member of the Quebec Remparts organization in 2004-06, he put up absurd numbers in the province’s capital, in his last season, scoring 61 goals and 152 points in 62 games.
- The former 15th overall pick has been over or at a point per game in every KHL season since the 2009-10 campaign, a feat recorded by few other at his level of play offer the years.

► Vermette is a Duck
- Antoine Vermette put an end to the speculation signing a two-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks with a reported average annual value of $1.75 million.
- The final year of Vermette’s contract was bought out by the Arizona Coyotes just over two weeks ago.
- Vermette spoke to Anaheim’s website, “I’ve always portrayed [the Ducks] as Cup contenders. That’s a big thing for me. I had the chance to win it not too long ago, and now later in my career, I believe in this team and organization.”
- The forward had 17 goals and 21 assists in 76 games last season.
► Vrbata Goes Home
- Formerly unencumbered right winger Radim Vrbata will be returning to his place where he crafted a name for himself in the NHL, according to a report from Arizona Sports.
- According to Craig Morgan, the Arizona Coyotes and the free agent forward are coming to terms on a one-year deal of which the financial terms are yet to be discerned.
- “Sources: Free-agent forward Radim Vrbata is now nearing a 1-year deal with the Coyotes. Story soon on @AZSports'” Morgan reported via his Twitter account.
- Vrbata has spent time with the organization prior, spending one season with the then Phoenix Coyotes in 2007-08, then again from 2009-14, this being his shining moment in the NHL.
- The Czech sniper was reportedly garnering interest from multiple teams and, after narrowing it down to four, reportedly including the Chicago Blackhawks whom he has also spent time with, chose to return to Arizona.
► Ovechkin Jersey Sells For 14K
- Alexander Ovechkin will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest goal scorers of all time, and, seven years past his NHL debut, his jersey from that moment was just sold for just over $14,000.
- According to Allan Muir of Sports Illustrated, Ovechkin’s jersey from the warmup and first period of his first NHL game was just sold for $14,340 at an auction. It was originally sold for just under eight thousand.
- Ovechkin is the author of 525 goals in his NHL career thus far, reaching that total in 839 games, the third-highest goals per game all-time among players that have played a minimum of 350 games.
- His .626 goals per game is higher than that of Pavel Bure, Wayne Gretzky, Brett and Bobby Hull, Maurice Richard and Guy Lafleur among many, many others, like almost every other player to play the game.
► New Home For Hall
- In a move that was somewhat clouded by the Weber-Subban trade, Taylor Hall has a new home in New Jersey, putting on the jersey for the first time last week.
- In photos released from the Devils’ Twitter account, Hall dons a brand new number from the one he wore in Edmonton and Windsor. He will wear number nine for the Devils.
- Hall also spoke to some Devils media following the event, “I certainly understand how successful this team was and the fan base that comes with it.” said the former Edmonton Oiler.
- From the grind of the Western conference schedule coming to the east, Hall spoke about the travel flexibility and adjustment to the east, “You can’t come to a better place than Jersey.”
- The former first overall pick was dealt for blueliner Adam Larsson earlier in the offseason, in a move to address the almost potty-trained dog that is the Edmonton Oilers defensive core.
► The Czechs Are On Top
- In an under-the-radar tournament, Czech Republic has just won the Ivan Hlinka tournament, defeating the United States in the gold medal game.
- The Czech Republic has never won a Ivan Hlinka tournament, the tournament is often dominated by Canada, the United States and Russia. This is a massive achievement for the country.
- The Canadian result was a fifth place finish following a 4-3 win against Finland. Last year saw this same Canadian side finish fourth in the tournament.
- Five out of the last six years have resulted in Canada playing in the bronze medal game, the one anomaly coming in 2012-13 when they won the championship.
► A New Game Mode
- Relative to NHL 15, NHL 16 was a wild success, and now, looking towards this year’s incarnation of the game, it appears EA Sports is going for the long bomb.
- The video game manufacturer released a video outlining one of their new game modes, “Franchise Mode” in which you can, among other things, relocate the team and manipulate concessions and merchandise.
- This game mode is almost parallel to a game mode seen in Madden games of the past, that have been met with some success.
- It should be interesting to see both the final result, meaning the product, and the reaction to the product, which is almost always seemingly negative.
