On this day in hockey history… 1969 — Bobby Orr has the first four-assist game of his NHL career, helping the Boston Bruins outlast the Los Angeles Kings 7-4 at Boston Garden. 1986 — New York Islanders’ Mike Bossy scored the 545th goal of his career and surpassed Hall-of-Famer Maurice “Rocket” Richard to move into 6th place on the NHL’s all-time scoring list. 1998 — Montreal Canadiens traded defensemen Dave Manson, Brad Brown and goaltender Jocelyn Thibault to Chicago for goalie Jeff Hackett, defensemen Eric Weinrich and Alain Nasreddine. |

Radulov Out
- Alexander Radulov has had 12 of his 14 points on home ice this season. Unfortunately for the Canadiens, he’s out with a virus. Radulov missed Thuesday’s game against the Panthers and could miss Friday’s game against the Hurricanes in Raleigh.
- Radulov is second on the team with 14 points in 16 games, only trailing Alex Galchenyuk, and is second for the team-lead in assists behind Galchenyuk, who has 12.
Terry Recalled
- In the wake of the injuries to Artturi Lehkonen and Brian Flynn, the Canadiens recalled Chris Terry.
- Terry, who has played both wings in the past and the centre position this season, joined the Canadiens this offseason following spending his entire career in the Carolina Hurricanes organization.
- The 27-year old is leading the St. John’s IceCaps in points this season with 15 in 14 games, just preceding the likes of Charles Hudon and Nikita Scherbak, who have 14 and 13 points, respectively.
- The former fifth-round selection in the 2007 draft played 68 games in the NHL with Carolina last season, recording eight goals and 11 points with a minus-rating on a surprising Hurricanes team.
Expected Salary Jump
- There’s no question Carey Price is due for a substantial pay raise come the end of the 2017-18 season, and Elliotte Friedman wonders if his cap hit annually could be in the double digits.
- While in interview with Sportsnet 590, Friedman speculated that the two sides have been speaking, and this contract could be ostentatious.
- “And look, that’s another reason why Subban was traded, because they knew that they were going to have to sign Carey Price at one point, and the number was going to be big,” said Friedman.
- “It could be a 10. It could be. I don’t know if it’ll go that high. I’m sure they’ll try to convince him to say, ‘Don’t make it 10 because we can win if you take a little less.’ But look. Would anybody be surprised if it’s a 9 or a 10?” noted the insider.
Crisp Recalled
- With Chris Terry being recalled to the Canadiens, the St. John’s Ice Caps needed to fill a roster spot, doing so by recalling Connor Crisp.
- In his brief stop with the Brampton Beast, the Canadiens ECHL affiliate, Crisp recorded two goals and one assist in three games.
- Injuries have stalled Crisp’s development through his first two seasons of professional hockey, recording only five points in 49 games from 2014-16.
- The 22-year old was selected 71st overall by the Canadiens in the 2013 entry draft, playing his OHL career between the Erie Otters and the Sudbury Wolves.
Habs Prospects Strong for OHL
- The Canadiens were well-represented in the recently-played game four of the annual Russia vs OHL series. Three Habs prospects, namely Michael McNiven, Will Bitten and Victor Mete were in the lineup for Team OHL.
- Bitten had an empty-net goal and McNiven made 25 saves in a 5-2 Team OHL win.
- Team OHL assistant coach Kris Knoblauch had this to say about the goaltending of McNiven, “Michael was a difference maker tonight. We got off to a very slow start in the first period but we had great goaltending and if Michael doesn’t make as many key saves as he did, we might have had a different outcome tonight.”
MTL prospects shining as McNiven, Mete and Bitten having solid performances, particularly McNiven.

Pittsburgh, Arizona In On Hamilton
- Dougie Hamilton’s tenure in the Flames organization has been tumultuous to say the least, leading to trade rumours surfacing of late, with two teams pulling ahead of the pack.
- According to Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet, the Flames are receiving calls about moving the young blueliner, however Kypreos says they aren’t shopping him.
- “I don’t suggest for one second that Calgary’s shopping [Hamilton], but there are teams inquiring. The two teams I’m hearing that are kicking tires are Arizona and Pittsburgh.”
- “If you are in fact going to think about trading him you gotta trade him when the stock is high and right now, unfortunately in Calgary, it’s not,” noted the former NHL’er.
Tavares Backing His Coach
- The New York Islanders have been putrid to start this season, including getting outscored 14-2 over three games with Tampa Bay, however John Tavares remains supportive of his coach.
- When questioned about the probability that Jack Capuano, the Islanders’ head coach, would be fired, Tavares expressed his disappointment with that theoretical.
- Jim Cerny of The Hockey Writers tweeted this week, “Tavares also was asked about Capuano possibly being on #Isles firing line: ‘I hope that’s not the case.'”
- Tavares is currently leading his team in points, with 12 in 16 games, and goals with five, one more than defenceman Denis Seidenberg.
- The terrible seasons for Anders Lee, Jaroslav Halak and Andrew Ladd have sparked the most displeasure among the fan base, that coupled with a sub-par roster has led to a rough start to he season.
