► Bergevin: Never Say Never
- Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin: “I’m taking calls. When a GM calls me, I don’t know what he’s calling me about. So I answer the phone, and, yes, I’ve received calls on P.K. But I’m not shopping P.K. Subban. I can tell you that.”
The Montreal Canadiens among the most interested in Ducks D-man, Cam Fowler. Obviously fuels the Subban speculation.

► Subban Responds to Lafleur
- As the ridiculousness surrounding P.K. Subban’s situation increases to disappointing levels, the team whipping boy continues to take shots during the offseason, and he responded to one this week.
- As one of the greatest Canadiens players of all time, it’s Guy Lafleur’s prerogative to speak his mind, however, after saying Subban should be put in his place by his teammates and should take Ritalin to calm down, Subban responded.
- “Guy perfectly has a right to his opinion,” Subban told Le Journal De Montreal. “I respect him for what he says, as a legend and as a person. But the reality is we don’t play in Guy’s time anymore. We’re in today’s world.”
- “There’s only one P.K. No other player, among those Guy played with was like me. Even after my career there won’t be another P.K,” Subban told the newspaper. “I am who I am. I don’t want to be somebody else and I never will be.”
- In the failure that was the 2015-16 season for the Canadiens, Subban set a new career-high for points-per game in a non-lockout season with .75, leading the Canadiens in that category.
► Comin’ Down the Mountain As She Comes
- Heartbreak over the inability to supplement the core has been synonymous with the Montreal Canadiens of the past quartet of years however, according to multiple insiders, there may finally some sort of shift that doesn’t include a $1.5 million deal.
- ESPN, TSN and RDS insider Pierre Lebrun provided Canadiens fans with the speaking equivalent of Xanax while on TSN 690, “It would not surprise me if something tangible happens this week, if not the next 14 days.” he said of the Canadiens striking a deal of some sort.
- Brian Wilde of CTV also gave his opinion on the level of activity to occur during the immediate future, “I would be quite surprised if Bergevin doesn’t do something big in the next two weeks,” Wilde said via his Twitter account.
- The mental anguish Canadiens fans have been subjected to, and also placed upon themselves to a certain extent by being caught up in rumours to a ridiculous level, leaves room for some to be skeptical, and though anything could happen between now and then, it seems something might finally take place.
► Habs Re-Sign Hanley
- The untenable water boarding the was last season for the Montreal Canadiens did have some bright spots, with Alex Galchenyuk reaching 30 goals and finally playing his correct position and Joel Hanley having a nice start to his NHL career.
- The Habs have signed the 25-year old to a one-year, two-way deal of which the financial details have yet to be divulged.
- Hanley recorded five goals and 13 points in 64 games with the St. John’s IceCaps last season, then having a phenomenal start to his pro career with four assists in his first three games, and two in his next seven to finish the season with six points in 10 games.
- Out of college, Hanley spent time in the ECHL and the with now defunct former AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers, the Portland Pirates prior to the Canadiens putting him under contract last pre-season.
► NHL 17 Revealed
- At the NHL awards Wednesday night Vladimir Tarasenko was revealed to be the cover athlete for NHL 17, that night the game’s creator, EA Sports, also revealed the first gameplay for the game’s 2016-17 edition.
- The gameplay shows some new aspects, such as new celebrations including P.K. Subban’s semi-patented bow-and-arrow firing celebration and the dab which I can’t wait until leaves.
- Tarasenko beat out San Jose Sharks Captain and Stanley Cup finalist Joe Pavelski, who presumably was informed of the meager disappointment prior to the reveal on jump day this week.
- The game will be available for purchase on September 13th, the day of the first night on the NHL schedule that sees, among other games, the Capitals face off against the Penguins in Pittsburgh.
► Yandle Signs In Florida
- The Florida Panthers have prematurely kicked off free agent frenzy by signing defenceman Keith Yandle to a seven-year, $44.5 million contract.
- The Panthers acquired Yandle this week from the Rangers in exchange for a 2016 sixth round pick and a conditional pick whose condition was if Yandle signed in Florida.
- Yandle had a relative down year last season in New York, failing to reach the 50 point plateau for the first time since the 2012-13 season, a season in which he was on pace to do so.
- Though you can never prophesize too far into the future, the eventual making of an albatross of this contract may not be to games missed due to injury, as he’s played in every game since the 2009-10 season.
- With now Yandle and Alex Gologoski off the free agent market, now NHL general managers attentions turn towards the likes of Jason Demers, Dan Hamhuis and Roman Polak.
- Yandle’s signing likely signals the end of Bryan Campbell’s time as a member of the organization, Campbell who is also an unrestricted free agent come July first.
► Kruger, Shaw On The Market?
- Evidently the deal that sent Bryan Bickell to Carolina wasn’t entirely to get Andrew Shaw under contract, as the Blackhawks will be looking to deal both him and Marcus Kruger.
- According to Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune the Blackhawks are shopping forward Marcus Kruger and are “putting out feelers on possible trade partner for Andrew Shaw,” Kuc said via his Twitter account.
- Kuc also spoke to Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman who didn’t at all do it to this conjecture, “Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman said majority of trade rumors are “false.” Bowman did add that ‘there’s a lot happening’ these days.”
- Regardless, the 2016 NHL draft is poised to be one of the most exiting in years, with few things sort in stone heading into the first night of the draft.
