► Habs training camp
- The Montreal Canadiens practiced on Saturday morning and had their second scrimmage of the 2015 training camp at Brossard. Team Red skated to a 4-2 victory with Lars Eller leading the way with two goals.

► New lines find chemistry
- Two days ago when Michel Therrien deployed Lars Eller with Alex Galchenyuk and Alex Semin the line was dynamic, making nice passes and converting chances. Galchenyuk still knows there will be an adjustment period.
- “We enjoy playing with each other, it’s tough to say a lot its only day two but I think it’s worked pretty well for us in the past two days and we’re still trying our best to adjust to each other and work on that chemistry,” the former third overall pick told the media scrum.
- “Sometimes the plays don’t work but we keep going, we keep trying new things,” said Galchenyuk. “Like I said we are doing our best to get adjusted to each other because we’ve never played like that before, but it’s fun, it’s exiting for sure.”
- The centreman had this to say about potentially teaching his Scandinavian teammate some Russian, “Ya, maybe, I don’t know. He probably will soon try to learn it himself because obviously me and Semin speak Russian on the bench but whenever we have to speak the three of us we speak in English.”
- Galchenyuk believes that playing with Lars Eller has really helped his transition back to centre. He said, “Yeah, obviously with the system we play, it doesn’t mean that if you’re a centre that you have to play in your own end. It is whoever back checks first that will be there and obviously we feel comfortable if Larry ends up there because he played centre he knows what to do there.”
► Subban unconcerned about the absence of a C on his jersey
- “What’s there to be depressed about,” he said when asked about not receiving the captaincy.
- “We knew that a captain would be named. I think we all had the impression that the announcement would be made after the training camp, but finally it happened [Friday],” said Subban. “Personally, I’m just happy to be part of this team.Whether you wear a letter or not, it is itself a privilege to put this sweater on.”
- Subban insisted that his focus was on winning a Stanley Cup saying, “My goal in life was never to be the captain of a team, whatever team. It would have been nice to be selected, but my dream has always been and continues to be to win the Stanley Cup. Otherwise, as long as my teammates see me as a guy that comes here and does his job on the ice, I’ll be satisfied.”
- The former second round pick is happy for his longtime teammate Max Pacioretty saying, “Max has been a great player for us since he was in the league and he appreciated everyone within the team.I know that management has always supported in this role and I’m happy for him.”
► Eller excited to play with his new linemates
- “Yeah, I think more than often if you have good chemistry as a line it’s something that happens pretty instantly and I always thought me and [Galchenyuk] have good chemistry going back three years ago […] and Semin is obviously a very talented player,” said Eller. “I think so far it’s been fun in practice and we’re going to keep building on it during the games, and I think it could be very good.”
- One of the team’s newest players is on his line and Eller already has a pretty good grasp of what he brings to the table saying “I think [Semin] brings a lot but most of all he brings a lot of skill and poise, you know he’s one of these players that has gamebreaker ability. He can break the pattern and do unexpected things at few players can do and on top of that he has a laser of a shot.”
- Eller spoke about Semin’s end-to-end rush that resulted in a missed scoring opportunity, “I’ve seen him do it before in games but still every time you see it you’re ‘wowed’ a little bit but we all know he has those abilities and hopefully we are going to see a lot of that this year.”
► Inspiring many
- When P.K. Subban donated $10 million to the Montreal Children’s Hospital it inspired many, especially a young child who wrote a letter to P.K. explaining what he wants to do. The youngster wants to make a donation like Subban, but to a lesser degree.

► Huge Bulldogs fans
- After moving to the OHL, the Hamilton Bulldogs got 100 per cent genuine reinforcement from two funny people in Martin Short and Tom Hanks. Although it’s one of the more bizarre and random clips for the CHL it’s also probably the best.
► Sent home early
- The New York Islanders have sent prospect Josh Ho-Sang back to Niagara IceDogs of the OHL following a violation of team rules on the first day of training camp. Ho-Sang arrived late for practice.
- Ho-Sang, who has a reputation of being a bit self-centred at times, was slated to skate alongside John Tavares and Anders Lee in training camp.
- The former 28th overall pick was traded from the Windsor Spitfires to Niagara last season, a move the Spitfires head coach felt was necessary to the future success of his team. “It was mandatory that we had to trade him. For many, many, numerous internal reasons, the people that truly know what went on behind the scenes would understand why we had to trade him. We might not be a better team in the standings because of it, but we’re definitely a better team within our four walls and it’s only going to help for the future.”
- There’s no doubt the Thornhill, Ontario native has a ton of skill. In 60 games last season, Ho-Sang recorded 17 goals and 81 points. He also had a goal and 16 points in 11 playoff games.
► Unconditional love
- A lot of things have been said and have happened to Patrick Kane in the last couple months but when he skated in front of Blackhawks fans for the first time this season he was welcomed with open arms. Kane, who is in the midst of a he-said, she-said battle, has still yet to be charged with a crime. It is reported that an out of court settlement is the most likely outcome.

► Zidlicky finds a home
- The New York Islanders have signed free agent defenceman Marek Zidlicky to a one year deal. As per team policy, financial terms were not disclosed.
- Zidlicky has played more than 780 NHL games recording 85 goals and 401 points. In 44 career playoff games he has one goal and 15 points.
- Before being traded to the Red Wings from the Devils at the trade deadline, the Czech Republic native had four goals and 23 points in 63 games. After the move that sent him to Michigan, he had three goals and 11 points in 21 games but didn’t record a point in the six playoff games.
- Zidlicky will take over the spot previously occupied by Brian Strait on the third defensive pairing playing alongside former first round pick Thomas Hickey. In the past few years he was playing on the top pairing as the Devils waited for, former fourth overall pick, Adam Larsson to develop into a top pairing defenceman. Now with insulation in the form of Johnny Boychuck and Travis Hamonic expect him to have a good season.
