On this day in hockey history… 1988 — The biggest trade in hockey history took place. Wayne Gretzky, Marty McSorely and Mike Krushelnyski were traded from Edmonton to the Los Angeles Kings for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, three first round draft picks (1989, 1991, and 1993) and $15 million. |

► Weber Arrives
- Shea Weber pulled on the Canadiens jersey for the first time since being acquired from the Nashville Predators on June 29th.
- Weber participated in a workout and a photoshoot for his new club.
- The number six jersey featured an ‘A’ indicating he will be an alternate captain for the upcoming season.
- Weber will meet the Montreal media for the first time on Tuesday when he participates in Michel Therrien’s golf tournament.

- Hall of Fame goaltender Ken Dryden turned 69 years old on Monday.

► Price Gives Endorsement
- Carey Price left no doubt that he believes Shea Weber will be an important part of the Canadiens’ success this upcoming season. Price said, “He’s going to bring a lot to our hockey team.”

► JayGreg Gives Back
- Nikita Scherbak and Zach Fucale among others participated in the David Perron-Attitude Hockey Foundation Tournament founded by IceCaps teammate Jeremy Gregoire.

► Bouillon Interested In Coaching
- Despite gross mismanagement leading to slight contempt by some Canadiens fans, Francis Bouillon was a productive player in the NHL, and doesn’t rule out coaching as a future endeavour.
- In an interview with TVA Sports, Bouillon, who was a coach during the Canadiens’s player development camp last month, was asked about the idea of finding back into hockey in another capacity.
- “For sure when you talk about hockey that’s what you know, I spent my life in it, as a player,” said Bouillon at a reunion for the 1995-96 Memorial Cup-winning Granby Predators team.
- Bouillon did get the opportunity to try his hand at the profession “A couple a of weeks ago I got a chance to go to the Canadiens player development camp. I liked my experience, sharing my experience with the youth. I think I have a lot to give. Hockey’s the best thing I can do,” said the diminutive former defenceman.
► Jets, Oilers Reveal Winter Classic Uniforms
- An under-the-radar source for great excitement this season will be the Heritage Classic to take place between the Winnipeg Jets and the Edmonton Oilers, both of which revealed their jerseys for the event this week.
- The more notable of the two being those of the Jets, who made an homage to the team’s first incarnation, revealing jerseys looking eerily similar to those Teemu Selanne donned during his time.
- The Oilers jerseys, however, are almost a carbon copy as those introduced last season as the team’s alternate uniform, that almost neon Orange with the blue trim on the shoulders and elbows.
- The 2016 Heritage Classic will take place on October 23rd of this year, both teams having young talent with the likes of Nikolaj Ehlers, Connor McDavid, Patrik Laine and Patrick Maroon.

► Down To Four
- Las Vegas hockey fans are still awaiting their team’s logo and name, however, according to owner Bill Foley, those should be on their way soon.
- While speaking with the Las Vegas Review Journal, Foley said they narrowed down the name options to four, making this process closer to being completed, although much work is left to be done.
- “We’re making progress. We’re in a pretty good position now, and we’re meeting next week with the NHL and adidas to look at logos and designs. We’ll have a little more clarity in the next 30 days.” said Foley via telephone.
- The Las Vegas ownership has been attempting to use the name “Knights”, but to no avail. “The London Knights own the name in Canada, and to acquire the name from London is not economically feasible. In the U.S., ‘Knights’ are fine. But we can’t use it in Canada.”
► Gretzky Looks Forward To Heritage Classic
- Wayne Gretzky’s Edmonton Oilers were one of the most ascendant teams in NHL history, and 28 years since he last stepped on the ice as an Edmonton Oiler, he will join his fellow former Oilers for the Heritage Classic. “It doesn’t work if one can’t play or doesn’t want to play or go. [Fuhr] can’t play anymore, his knees are too bad, but he’ll be there. We wouldn’t go if he wasn’t there. That’s the one thing about our group, we all go together. If one guy can’t go, pretty much nobody goes,” he told Dan Rosen of NHL.com.
- Gretzky is very much fond of the events former for the legends “It’s a cross section of the guys and it’s always fun when we get together. The trainers come in from that era. It’s just a really wonderful get together.”
- 28 years ago Tuesday the Oilers dealt Gretzky to Los Angeles in exchange for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, three first round picks in 1989, 1991 and 1993 and $15 million in cash.
► Rome To Sue NHL, Insurance Company
- Aaron Rome, who probably most known for delivering a hit to Nathan Horton that knocked him out of the Stanley Cup final, has sued the NHL and his insurance company over a “career ending” hip injury.
- According to the Dallas Morning News “Rome then made a claim for disability benefits from HCC Life Insurance Co., but was denied. He alleges that the insurance adjuster assigned to handle his claim was not licensed in Texas and withheld documents he needed to appeal the claim.”
- Rome spent time with four different NHL teams in the Ducks, Blue Jackets, Canucks and most recently Dallas, with the most games he played in a single season coming in 2010-11 with the Canucks.
- Due to an amalgam of bouncing between the AHL and NHL, injuries and being put in the press box, Rome played in ten seasons of professional hockey, only playing 226 NHL games.
► Marner Likely To Start Season In Toronto
- Mitch Marner’s performance during the Memorial Cup playoffs was a sight to behold and, hopefully for Leafs fans, Marner will make the most of the opportunity he is being given by Leafs brass.
- “I sure think he has a good chance,” said Babcock during an interview with TSN. “Mitch has been working with our guys and really training hard. He’s eating right and doing everything he can to get stronger, to say Mitch has to put on a bunch of weight, to me, is ridiculous,” Babcock said.
- “I thought he was magical yesterday in practice. I really like his attention to detail without the puck, how he knocks down pucks, how he knows where the puck’s going. The puck always comes to him,” noted Babcock.
- In 57 regular season game in London last season Marner recorded 39 goals and 116 points, adding 16 goals and 44 points in 18 games during the OHL playoffs.
