HYUNDAI HOCKEY NATION TAKES TO THE ICE WITH THE ULTIMATE HOCKEY CLINIC IN MONTRÉAL
CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA Launches Coaching Symposium and Hockey Clinics at Centre Civique Dollard-des-Ormeaux from November 25-27
CBC News release
Former NHL and Olympic coach Pat Quinn hosts the symposium with renowned trainer Ron Davidson leading the clinics along with CBC broadcaster and former Montréal Canadien, P.J. Stock
“Hyundai Hockey Nation is all about delivering a truly remarkable and valuable hockey experience,” said John Vernile, Vice President of Marketing at Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. “It’s not every day that children can learn valuable skills from some of the best professional hockey instructors in the world. The program also connects minor hockey coaches with a team of world-class professionals to learn how to develop the strategies and tactics to help kids play better, smarter and safer hockey.”
This ultimate hockey clinic will take place at Centre Civique Dollard-des-Ormeaux and includes everything from skills training and coaching tips to family fun events including CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA Photo Booth, where fans can get behind the desk and pose with a cut-out of Don Cherry and Ron MacLean.
Hyundai Hockey Nation is a unique partnership between Hyundai Canada and CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA that takes place over weekends between November 2011 and January 2012, in Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. Participants can register online exclusively at www.cbcsports.ca/hockeynation.
Hyundai Hockey Nation features a series of fun and highly informative clinics, available free to players of all skill levels. The clinics are run by one of Canada’s foremost hockey trainers, Ron Davidson, working with local minor hockey associations. Davidson, a member of Canada’s hockey team at the 1980 Olympic Games, is the author of Play Better Hockey, a book focused on skills development.
Joining Davidson in Montréal to host the coaching symposium is veteran NHL coach Pat Quinn, who was behind the bench for the Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, L.A. Kings and Philadelphia Flyers over the course of his career. He coached Team Canada to Gold at the Salt Lake City Olympics, the 2004 World Cup of Hockey, the 2008 World Under-18 Championship and the 2009 World Junior Championship.
Former Montréal Canadien, P.J. Stock, will also take part in the clinic portion on Sunday November 25th. Stock is in his fifth year as an analyst for CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA broadcast team. The Quebec native play began his NHL career in 1997 as a free agent with the New York Rangers. After spending three seasons with the Rangers’ AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, he signed with the Canadiens prior to the 2000-01 season and was traded after 20 games to the Philadelphia Flyers. Stock later played two seasons for the Boston Bruins where he became a fan favourite for his tenacious and gritty style of play.
Each camp starts on Friday night with a coaching symposium that will provide valuable insight for coaches ranging from practice planning and management to in-game strategy and execution. The focus shifts to the kids on Saturday and Sunday with interactive on- and off-ice clinics offering hands-on coaching instruction and drills for the registered players. Each event is open to all community residents.
