Game Report

Some nights it’s not very complicated. The Canadiens were outplayed, badly. But their goaltender made the saves and the Kraken goaltender did not.

It may seem like a familiar story but Montreal got off to a slow start. The Habs were outshot 11-to-4 in the first period but escaped with a 1-1 tie. Johnathan Kovacevic opened the scoring with his first NHL career goal. The 25-year-old has forged a non-linear path to the NHL through the NCAA, AHL and via waivers to the Canadiens.

And who answered for Seattle? Shane Wright scored his first NHL goal. The script could not have been written more perfectly.

The game was decided in the second period. Once again, the Habs were outshot 8-to-4. But the Canadiens scored on three-of-four shots in the middle frame including two goals in a seven second span, a new franchise road record.

A quick scoreboard check halfway through the third period revealed that Montreal was still stuck on single digits. Through 50 minutes of play, the Canadiens had recorded just nine shots on goal. Seattle had 22.

The Habs looked gassed for most of the third period, but unlike in Vancouver, were able to hold on to collect two points.
