Game Report

The Canadiens had their legs right from the outset and played one of their better first periods in recent memory. Yet, it was the Jets who led 1-0 at the first intermission.

Giving up a goal late in the first period and another in the opening two minutes of the second frame typically takes the wind out of a team’s momentum but the Canadiens seemed to be on a mission tonight. And the spark came from some unlikely contributors.

Artturi Lehkonen, Joel Armia and Jake Evans led the way for the Canadiens, each being strong on the forecheck to create extended zone time for their lines. And the Canadiens struggling power-play even scored twice.

Nick Suzuki scored his third goal in the past two games. Suzuki credited a meeting during the intermission for adjustments that made the difference on the power-play.

Cole Caufield was buzzing with two new linemates, Evans and Lehkonen. The Canadiens rookie will have to wait at least one more game for his first goal in the NHL.

It was yet another rough outing for Jake Allen who allowed multiple weak goals. Allen had to reply on his teammates to outscore his mistakes tonight.

Up Next

The Canadiens moved to within four points of the third place Winnipeg Jets. The four game home stand continues as the Canadiens meet the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night at the Bell Centre.

What Did They Say?

Post-game Quotes

Dominique Ducharme

  • “[Shea Weber] isn’t someone who complains easily. Does he always play fully healthy? Probably not. He suffered the injury at the beginning of the road trip to Western Canada.”

Nick Suzuki

  • “[Shea Weber] is the biggest piece for our team. He’s our leader, hopefully we get him back soon. He definitely doesn’t want to miss games but we got to win games for him until he’s ready to go. “

Ben Chiarot

  • “It was huge. It was huge for our confidence, huge in the standings. To score five goals, it gives us the confidence that we can put the puck in the net, so hopefully we can carry that into the games going forward.”
