From TSN:
Montreal Canadiens defenceman Mike Komisarek will be on the shelf for another month with a shoulder injury suffered after a fight with Boston’s Milan Lucic last week.
Komisarek, 26, has missed the Canadiens’ last four games.
Montreal’s top hitter and shot-blocker over the last two seasons has one goal and 33 penalty minutes in 14 games in 2008-09 and is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Habster:
Simply put, not what the Canadiens organization wanted to here, especially if there is ligament damage or a separation………bad news!!!!
I will simply add two quotes to this story:
Mike Komisarek: “I never saw my role as a guy who looks for fights or is an enforcer, but fighting’s part of the game. I wouldn’t be shocked if my gloves came off a couple of times this year. But with Georges, I’ll leave most of it to him. Everyone’s going to be excited to see him toss a few guys around.”
Georges Laraque: “Guys like Komisarek should never fight. My presence will take some pressure off from him.”
Well, it looks like O’Byrne gets a full time extended trial as a top 4 blueliner. They are pretty thin on the right side at the NHL level. Josh Gorges is a lefty, although he has played most of the time on the right side. Brisebois has to be spotted at best, Dandeneault was below Brisebois on the depth chart.
As for Komo’s fighting, he hasn’t shied away from it in the past, and generally aquitted himself fairly well. There is no way that he is going to avoid them in the future, without gaining a bad rep.
