Habster:
“Poor man’s Sundin……”
“His better days are behind him…..”
“I would still prefer Sundin…..”
“I can’t believe how slow this guy is…..”
“$4 million for who?…….”
These are just some of the reactions/comments from Canadiens fans calling radio sports shows or comments from All Habs readers.
It’s hard to believe these comments were thrown around so easily without allowing Robert Lang time to adjust and find his game in a Habs jersey. He has been a pleasant surprise this season, not bad for a guy who leads the Canadiens in points (30) and goals (15).
I must admit I was skeptical when Bob Gainey traded for the big Czech center. But with that being said, I was also glad to see Gainey move beyond the Swedish reality show called “The Homeless, Confused and Hypocritical Swede”…….alright, the title is a little long winded, but you can understand my frustration with the big jerky Swede!!!!
Lang has an infectious way about him that makes him popular with his teammates and in turn, with the fans. He is good with the media for the most part (though some beat writers (François Gagnon being one) have mentioned that he sometimes has a tendency to hit the showers and dress quickly before reporters enter the room) and always responds to questions in a straight forward, almost humorous manner.
He has played a key role on the penalty killing unit and has given Guy Carbonneau a solid third (or second?) line center who is consistent in all three zones.
He has played well the last 10 games with 9 points (G-5 A-4) and seems to have gelled with the Kostitsyn brothers on his wings the last two games (let’s hope Carbo will leave them alone!!!).
Lang has even shown another gear in his skating stride which wasn’t apparent at the beginning of the season. Just goes to show you that we shouldn’t be too judgemental on a new player until he has had time to adjust to a new city, linemates, game system and coaches. It certainly seems like Mr. Lang has found his comfort zone in a Canadiens uniform. Now it’s time for Canucks fans to be patient with that big jerky Swede………ahhh, screw him!!!!
I don’t think Lang was ever in Sundins shadow.I prefer Lang over Sundin.Thats my Opinion but everyone’s different.
Hey remember,

Hey GO HABS GO,
Robert Lang was sort of in Sundin’s shadow until he was able to show Hab fans that he could contribute on a game to game basis.
I have been pleasantly surprised how well Lang has played the last few games. His skating has vastly improved over the first half of the season.
