Laviolette out, Maurice in as Hurricanes coach

Excerpts from TSN:

The Carolina Hurricanes have fired head coach Peter Laviolette and in a unique about face, have replaced him with former Hurricanes head coach Paul Maurice.

This move comes amid weeks of speculation of change in Carolina and the teams’ battle with consistency with Laviolette at the helm.

Carolina has won just 4 of its last 10 games and sits second in the Southeast and eighth in the Eastern Conference, but the Hurricanes face a tough schedule this week with Pittsburgh in Raleigh, NC on Thursday, followed by the Philadelphia Flyers visit on Saturday.

  1. We are getting a lot of non Habs news lately. Like we don’t have enough to talk about ;-)

Honestly though, I always loved Paul Maurice. I think he’s a good coach who shouldn’t have taken the blame from Toronto’s bad year. John Fergusson Jr. was the real problem. However I am curious: how often do we see this: A coach fired from a team and then rehired within a couple of year by the same team?

  2. As I understand, the Mets are giving serious consideration to rehiring Willie Randolph.

And their crosstown rivals probably set a record with the Yankees firing and rehiring Billy Martin numerous times.
