Sources told The Globe and Mail that Montreal and Tampa have indeed discussed a deal for Lecavalier, and that the Habs are unimpressed that news leaked out.
Lecavalier, a 28-year-old native of Île-Bizard, Que., has made only token efforts to play down his affection for the Canadiens.
“It’s heart-warming to see the reaction of people in Quebec,” Lecavalier told La Presse. “I’ve been thinking a lot about it. I’ve always been proud to play for the Lightning. But Montreal has always been a special place for me.”
