The Tampa Bay Lightning signed goaltender Mike Smith to a two-year contact extension on Monday.

”It goes without saying that Mike has a bright future in the Lightning organization,” vice president of hockey operations Brian Lawton said. ”It is important in our plan to have locked up Mike, along with Ollie (Kolzig), to solidify our goaltending situation this season and beyond.”

Smith appeared in 13 games with the Lightning last season and posted a 2.79 goals-against average, an .893 save percentage and one shutout. Prior to being acquired by Tampa Bay he posted a 12-9-0 record with a .906 save percentage and a 2.46 save percentage with Dallas.
