Looking at the past and upcoming seasons: Carey Price

Here’s an excerpt from a Canadiens.com (Manny Almela) article looking back at Carey Price’s 2007-08 season and also a look ahead to the upcoming season:

After accomplishing what only a small handful of goalies his age had ever managed to do in NHL history, Price made it clear he was just getting warmed up. Overlooked by rookie of the year voters, the young netminder still earned a spot on the NHL’s All-Rookie Team at season’s end.

Price kicked off his NHL career with seven straight wins last season, on his way to setting a new team record for 20-year-old rookie Habs goalies with 24 wins. His total surpassed the previous benchmark of 23 set in 1985-86, by none other Patrick Roy.

With a golden opportunity to lock down the No. 1 spot in the Habs’ crease this season, Price can now set his sights on the league record for most wins by a 21-year-old netminder. That mark was set by popular trivia answer Jim Carey of the Capitals, who notched 35 wins in 1995-96 on his meteoric rise to the Vezina Trophy that year.
