McDonagh Starts Season with a Bang

Habster:

Below is an excerpt from the HabProspect.com article by montrealdan about Canadiens prospect, Ryan McDonagh who is having a great start to his NCAA season. McDonagh has been solid in his own zone and has picked up his offensive game as well with 4 points (G-2 A-2) in 5 games.

Unfortunately, McDonagh’s success hasn’t tranferred to his team as the Wisconsin Badgers are a woeful 0-4-1 and have been outscored by a 25-16 margin while giving up an average of 39 shots per game.

This season Ryan McDonagh has returned to Wisconsin for his sophmore year but he’s playing like he doesn’t want to go back as he has been one of Wisconsin’s top players in two games at least, putting points on the board with five points in six games and playing a much more physical game for a player that was already known for playing the body. In the Denver series last weekend, McDonagh looked like someone from Denver stole his lunch money as he was hitting everything in site, even pushing down a player that tried to get up off the ice after McDonagh had just seconds before sent him there. In addition to playing an aggressive physical game, he also looked solid as usual in his own end and appeared to have more confidence in his offensive game, jumping up on the play when he saw fit and never got burned.

  1. Montreal Dan’s perspective of McDonagh seems a lot more optimistic than Badger fans perspective.

Word from Badgerland is that most Wisco defensemen have been terrible in their own end so far this season, including McDonagh.

  2. ..another thing, someone needs to tell Ryan not to let his jaw hang slack at press conferences.

I watched the Badger post game P.C. from last week and McDonagh looked like a special needs person.
