Tomas Plekanec earns Molson Cup honour for December
PRESS RELEASE
MONTREAL – Canadiens’ forward Tomas Plekanec is the Molson Cup recipient for the month of December. He earns this honour for the third time in his career after winning it in January 2007 and January 2011. Max Pacioretty was the November recipient and Carey Price the October winner.
Plekanec was selected once as the first star of the game (on December 21 at Nashville), on three occasions as the second star (on December 5 against Boston, the 7 versus Buffalo and the 14 at Long Island), as well as two times as the third star (on December 4 at New Jersey and the 28 at Tampa Bay). The Czech forward finished ahead of teammates Carey Price and David Desharnais.
The 31-year old centre registered six points (4 goals, 2 assists) in 14 games in December. Plekanec led the team’s forwards with a 19:49 average ice time per game, and ranked second on the team with 40 shots on goal.
In 2013-14, the Molson Cup scoring system awards three points for a first star selection, two points for a second star selection and a single point for a third star selection.
Tomas Plekanec will be presented with the Molson Cup during a ceremony prior to tonight’s game against the Ottawa Senators at the Bell Centre.
