Habster:
Columbus Dispatch Blue Jackets beat reporter Tom Reed wrote the excerpt below about this rumour that is floating around the Columbus Blue Jackets dressing room. I hope this rumour doesn’t happen as Sergei Fedorov‘s best days are behind him, let’s just hope our great pro scouting staff doesn’t give Gainey a glowing evaluation on him!!!!!
Tom Reed (Puck-rakers):
It was night of weird bounces, curious calls and a bit of off-ice intrigue.
Let’s start with the intrigue.
Minutes after the Blue Jackets escaped with a 2-1 win over the last-place L.A. Kings, a Russian journalist approached coach Ken Hitchcock with a bizarre question.
Were the Blue Jackets about to trade Sergei Fedorov to the Montreal Canadiens? The reporter said this is what his sources in Moscow are telling him.
Hitchcock denied the rumor. Fedorov, a free agent at season’s end, might be traded but it seems a bit early for such a deal. The Canadiens are in the thick of the Eastern Conference race and wouldn’t appear desperate to make a deal.
There are rumors in Montreal of a possible trade for a Russian star, but his name is Alexander Ovechkin. Ovechkin is a restricted free agent at season’s end and the Washington Capitals might consider trading him before they possibly lose him.
This is the first we’ve heard of a Fedorov-to-Montreal deal. No doubt, his name will pop up many times before the trade deadline.
