Game Report

The Canadiens head coach said that his team should be “embarrassed” by their play in the first period. Montreal was dominated at home by the Kraken in the opening frame. Seattle scored three times and outshot the Habs 19-6.

The Bell Centre fans were not afraid to express their displeasure as the home side headed to the dressing room for the first intermission.

The visitors had five high-danger scoring chances in the first 20 minutes, then dialed it back adding just two more to their total for the rest of the game.

Offensively the Canadiens could not solve Martin Jones and they were shut out for the third time this season.

Marty St. Louis was exasperated after the game. “Disappointed” was a word that came up over and over. And he appeared to be a coach without any answers, particularly about his team’s start to the game.

The Canadiens have given up the first goal in each of the past seven games. Allowing the first goal has happened in 26 of their contests this season.

And yes, the Habs remain winless wearing the powder blue “Reverse Retro 2.0” jerseys.

Up Next

Tuesday will be a day off for the team. The Canadiens will be back at the Bell Centre on Thursday night as they host the Nashville Predators.

What Did They Say?

Post-game Quotes

Marty St. Louis

  • “I don’t understand. We weren’t ready. The guys didn’t start the match at the right time. It’s disappointing. I’m disappointed with the defensive commitment of the group in the first period, and it cost us the game.”
  • “Nobody likes to lose. But when you give yourself fully and you lose, you are able to swallow it. We had too many passengers tonight and we are not good enough to have passengers. It was an unacceptable first period.”
  • “The second and third periods really mean nothing when you know a first (period) of the same. It sucks.”

Nick Suzuki

  • “It’s pretty unacceptable from our group. It started with my line’s first shift, we got hemmed in for two minutes. It starts with my line and trickled down from there, down 3-0 after the first (period) isn’t a good spot.”
