MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Monday the signing of defenseman P.K. Subban to a two-year contract (2012-13 to 2013-14). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Since making his NHL debut with the Canadiens back in 2009-10, Subban has registered 76 points (21 goals, 55 assists) in 160 regular season games. The 6’0’’, 206 lbs defenseman has scored 14 of his goals on the powerplay, and has three game-winning goals. Subban has served 245 penalty minutes and owns a plus-2 plus/minus differential. He has tallied three goals and 12 points in 21 NHL playoff games, including two with the man advantage. Subban was voted to the NHL All-Rookie Team following the 2010-11 season.
A native of Toronto, Subban was the Canadiens’ third selection (second round, 43rd overall) at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to making his debut at the professional level, Subban played with the OHL’s Belleville Bulls and earned a gold medal with Canada at the 2008 and the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championships.
