Canadiens claim Jeff Halpern off waivers

MONTREAL (March 23, 2013) – Montreal Canadiens general manager, Marc Bergevin, announced today that forward Jeff Halpern was claimed off NHL waivers from the New York Rangers.
Halpern, 36, appeared in 30 games with the Rangers in the 2012-13 season. He has 36 hits, while playing an average of 9:09 minutes per game. The centre has won 93 of his 164 faceoffs, for a 56.7% faceoff win percentage, ranking him tied for 11th in the NHL in that statistical category.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound forward shows a career record of 359 points (146 goals, 213 assists) in 891 regular-season games. Halpern played for the Canadiens in 2010-11, totaling 26 points (11 tallies, 15 helpers) in 72 games. In 36 career playoff contests, Halpern has recorded 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists).
In his 13th NHL season the native of Washington, D.C. also suited up for the Washington Capitals, Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning and Los Angeles Kings.
