Official Release: Hudon Scores Twice, QMJHL Defeats Team Russia 3-2

GATINEAU, Monday, November 18, 2013 – A capacity crowd at Robert-Guertin Arena watched Team QMJHL open the 2013 SUBWAY Super Series with an exciting 3-2 victory led by a two-goal and one assist performance by Charles Hudon of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens.

The Montreal Canadiens prospect earned Player of the Game honours on the QMJHL’s top line that also included Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Jonathan Drouin of the Halifax Mooseheads who collected three assists, and Detroit Red Wings prospect Anthony Mantha of the Val-d’Or Foreurs who scored the game-winner and chipped in one assist.

Team QMJHL struck first on their seventh shot of the game. At 11:56 of the first period, Hudon found the back of the net with a shot from the slot with a great set-up from Drouin.

Hudon tallied again at 4:02 of the second frame. He found himself in perfect position on a another great Drouin pass.

The Russians cut the lead by one near the midway point of the second period off the stick of 2014 NHL Draft prospect and Team Russia Player of the Game Ivan Barbashev of the Moncton Wildcats with fellow QMJHL forwards Valentin Zykov and Denis Gorbunov of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar each picking up assists on the play.

The Russians tied the game up two at 6:06 of the third period following a tremendous individual effort by another 2014 NHL Draft prospect Vladimir Tkachyov.

Mantha, who leads the QMJHL with 24 goals, gave the lead back to the home team at 15:53 of the third period.

Mooseheads’ goalie and Candiens prospect Zachary Fucale made 19 saves in the win.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday night when they face off in Sherbrooke for the second game of the SUBWAY Super Series.  The game can be seen live on Sportsnet and TVA Sports.
