 Game Recap:

Team Canada came out of the gate with a far more aggressive start against Austria. Coach Mike Babcock stressed more shots and shorter shifts and it paid off. Jeff Carter and Patrick Marleau were the best forwards for Canada each with three points. Drew Doughty and Shea Weber once again got the scoring underway just as they did against Norway.

 Post-game Press Conference

Coach Mike Babcock

  • mike-babcock“[Jeff Carter] doesn’t make a lot of plays, he gets the puck and shoots it in the net.”
  • When asked who he is leaning towards starting in goal against Finland: “I’m leaning towards a day off tomorrow. Lots of time to think.”
  • “[Scratching players] is way harder (at the Olympics.) It’s ridiculous, actually.  I told Sharpie (Patrick Sharp) he wasn’t playing tonight. He doesn’t ask why. Because I have no answer why.” Babcock confirmed that Patrick Sharp and Dan Hamhuis will play Sunday vs. Finland.
  • P.K. (Subban) was fine.”

Forward Jeff Carter

  • “I’ll take them any way they can come right now. My linemates did a great job of winning races to the puck, winning puck battles, and getting pucks to the net, and I guess you could say I was the recipient of their hard work. It was good.”
  • “Confidence in these tournaments is a big thing, with it being so short. You get a goal, and you start to feel good about yourself. Your legs start to feel a little better, the hands start to feel a little better, and it feels like the game comes a little easier. It’s definitely big.”
