The pair of Edmonton forwards walked away from Saturday night’s game with eight points. It’s fair to expect that discipline would have been part of the pre-game message to Habs players. The Oilers entered the game riding along at a 27.6 percent success rate with the man advantage. The home side improved that number going three for five on the power-play scoring all three goals in succession in the second period. The trouble started in the last minute of the first frame with Arber Xhekaj taking a needless tripping call on Connor McDavid. From there it was Joel Edmundson joining the parade to the penalty box with a high-sticking penalty just 42 seconds into the middle stanza. Less than five minutes later, Edmundson was back at it again, this time earning himself a game misconduct after earning a five-minute cross-checking major against Zach Hyman, who was cut on the play. The Canadiens managed two power-play goals of their own, quite a rare accomplishment this season, but the visitors were no match for the Oilers’ potent machine with the man advantage. Indiscipline was certainly their undoing.
