PROSPECTS | Canadiens Development Camp – Day 3

BROSSARD, QC. — The Canadiens prospects were back on the ice on Tuesday for drills and two scrimmages. The day before was devoted to testing, designed to evaluate speed, agility, response-time and endurance. For the newly-drafted prospects, the information gathered will be used to establish a baseline to gauge development over time and injury recovery.

The scrimmages on Tuesday once again were played using a two-period format. The first period was played 4-on-4 while the final period was played 3-on-3. Rather than a two-minute penalty, penalty shots were assessed as a result of infractions.

The clear choice for best player of the day was newly-drafted Mikhail Sergachev. Firstly, the ninth overall pick in the 2016 draft proved to be tough to play against. He positioned himself well to angle opponents to the outside, not afraid to use his body to lean on opposing forwards.

Sergachev smoothly led rushes from his won zone and looked confident carrying the puck.  He showed off his skill in the offensive zone.  To add icing to the cake, Sergachev recorded a hat trick during the first scrimmage scoring two highlight reel goals and one on a penalty shot.
