Nervous yet? I am. You’d think after seeing so many Montreal/Boston matchups in the playoffs, I’d be used to this by now, but evidently that’s not the case.
Since last Thursday’s barnburner against the Bruins, I’ve been thinking about this series. It wasn’t guaranteed until Saturday night, but in my mind, it was always going to be a renewal of post-season pleasantries with Beantown.
Here’s a few scattered thoughts that have been occupying my time in the past couple days:
- Anyone with the belief that Georges Laraque being in the lineup will have a favorable impact on the outcome of the series for the Habs, they’re nuts.
- How badly must the Bruins want revenge for past defeats? 2002, 2004 and 2008. It would be especially sweet for the Bruins to put the final nail in the Canadiens’ 100th season.
- On the same note, how bad must Claude Julien want this? To sink your former boss’ battleship would be sweet, would it not?
- Can Tomas Plekanec and the rest of the second line PLEASE show up. Without them, it won’t matter if 3 Markovs come back. We need secondary scoring.
- Can Carey Price draw on his past successes in the junior ranks and apply them now in his 2nd playoff season? Or has the sophomore jinx taken too big a bite out of his confidence?
- Sticking with Price, how short of a leash will Gainey have him on? 1 bad game? 2 bad goals?
- Can Breezer be solid on the blue line and not be a soft turnover machine?
- Will the Canadiens weather the storm in the first 10 minutes of the first? I think the over/under on the score after the first 10 minutes should be 2-0 Boston.
How about the rest of you? Any thoughts you want to put out there to help settle your pre-game jitters?
hey there Kyle. Big Brother here. Sorry I didn’t welcome you yet to the allhabs family. Glad to see some new blood here. Here are some of my thoughts about game 1.
We need secondary scoring all right but not as much as we need markov. This will hurt.
You are right about Boston having a lot to avenge.
Please don’t pull a “rocket” here. Take a good look at breezer tonight. I expect him to be our best dmen coming out of our zone. His first pass is always solid and he’s playing solid under pressure. Last year he played his best hockey during the playoffs.
Laraque? IF he stop asking nicely and drop the gloves for his teammates he MAY be an asset.
Price has been solid lately. His defense not so much. The real question is: how much help will he get and will it be enough?
My scariest nightmare? Lucic. He’s a good players with lots of grit. He’s made for playoffs. I’m betting he’ll be one of the biggest threat.
Can’t watch the game cause I’m working late but I’ll talk to you after ch express.
Hi Kyle,
Also wanted to welcome you to the team :)
Honestly, I’m with you on a lot of these points. I think Carey will be okay though… he has been a lot better lately (well lately as in before the 4 losses to end the season haha), so I’m hoping that his confidence will carry over. I think that Jaro is confident too, so if worse comes to worse at least we have a solid back-up.
The big question mark for me is Thomas. If we can get to him, I think we’ll be okay… and he’s usually not the greatest against us.
Anyway, a couple minutes till game time, so I’m gonna get going but great post and welcome to the team once again :)
Enjoy the game!

@ Big Brother & habsbloggergirl,
Thanks for the warm welcome, it's great to be a part of the crew!
BTW, Breezer WAS awful last night and I hope he's out of the lineup for game 2. Weber can't play any worse or any more soft, or give the puck up more than he did.
Kyle, I agree 100% with your Brisebois comment. Play Weber
I think BGL was decent and did a lot of good things that don’t show up on the score sheet.
I have had enough of Plecs. To soft and he take bad penalties. Dress Stewart and sit him.
Price was good, but we need him to steal number 2 and we need to stay out of the box, especially bozo penalties like Gorges. That changed the entire momentum of the game.
