Game Recap: Despite an early onslaught by the Rangers, Carey Price took charge posting his 19th career shutout.

Lineup Notes:
- Habs starting six: Tomas Plekanec, Michael Ryder, Brian Gionta, Josh Gorges, P.K. Subban, Carey Price
- Scratched: Tomas Kaberle, Mike Blunden, Yannick Weber
- Brandon Prust returned to the lineup after missing eight games with a separated shoulder.
- Defenseman Nathan Beaulieu made his NHL debut.
- Scouting the game were Pierre Gauthier ( Blackhawks), Craig MacTavish (Edmonton) and John Ferguson Jr. (San Jose.)
What you need to know:
- The Rangers are the lowest scoring team in the league, and have been struggling on the power-play. Giving up a goal to Michael Ryder 47 seconds in was not how they wanted to start.
- Montreal had some trouble in the first period dealing with the speed and forechecking of the blueshirts surrendering 17 shots on goal but Carey Price was solid, including turning away Marion Gaborik on a breakaway.
- Price made 34 saves to register his third shutout of the season and the fourth straight shutout against the Rangers at the Bell Centre. Price showed leadership signalling Subban not to retaliate against Rangers forward Rick Nash who had bulldozed the goaltender. With Nash in the penalty box, the Canadiens scored their third goal of the night.
- Despite a few giveaways in his own zone, P.K. Subban had another fine offensive game with three assists. His partner on the blueline Josh Gorges played 20:33 and blocked six shots.
- Brendan Gallagher was around the Rangers goal all game and Tomas Plekanec always seemed to be in the right place whether in the offensive or defensive zone.
- After a rough outing against Boston, Alexei Emelin had a strong game with four hits, three blocked shots and a plus-2 rating.
- Nathan Beaulieu played a surprising 17:17 in his NHL debut. He struggled with positioning at times but moved the puck well even getting time on the second power-play unit.
- With a legitimate third-line winger in Brandon Prust joining them, Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk were more effective. Eller went 75 percent at the faceoff dot.

Coach Michel Therrien:
- “Price was phenomenal. He was in control. He was square to the puck. He played a great, great game.”
- “[Gallagher] is playing with a lot of determination. He’s tough to play against. He’s always on the puck. He’s always at the net.”
- “I’m glad [Prust] was back. he was really solid again. He played his game. He was good.”
- “Right now P.K. is playing some great hockey for us. One thing we ask him is to be dependable with the puck. He has the right attitude.”
- “[Beaulieu] played a solid game. He made some good passes. Kept his game simple. So for a first game, we’re pleased.”
Brandon Prust on Carey Price:
- “Probably the best game I’ve ever seen him play since being on this team, that’s for sure. He made some huge stops. You know we did a good job in front in clearing rebounds and blocking shots, but we can’t take that much credit for some of the stops that he made.”
P.K. Subban:
- “The thing about Price is he makes the saves look easy. A lot of them weren’t. But no one’s surprised here. He’s one of the best goaltenders in the league.”
Rangers coach John Tortorella:
- “In the first period we stayed with it after a fluky goal to start the game. If we score on a couple of our chances – [Gaborik] had a breakaway – it may change the complexion [of the game]. If you score that goal it changes the complexion, but we’re just not getting that done.”
Rangers forward Brad Richards:
- “We had a lot of good chances, some big saves, posts. It’s just the way we are right now. It happens to many teams, but it’s tough. I can’t lie to you, I can’t fake it. It’s really tough.”
