The Canadiens have finally found a home for Garth Murray with the Florida Panthers. Bob Gainey is on the hook for half of what is owed to Murray which will be approximately $250,000. It’s not a huge amount of money but is still money that will be removed from the team’s salary cap.
When Murray was first aquired from the NY Rangers for Marcel Hossa in 2005, he showed flashes of hustle/grit and was a serviceable player who never complained about playing time. With numerous talented prospects like Kostitsyn, Latendresse, Grabovski and Chipchura all vying for ice time (and playing substantial roles as well), Garth Murray was expendable due to his limited potential as a player.
