 Game Recap:

After the game, defenseman Mike Weaver said that the Canadiens needed to forget this game. But perhaps they should remember the opportunity that was given away on this night.  The Habs have just one more game to secure home ice advantage but after a no-show performance, they have boxed themselves into a corner.  Carey Price was solid giving his team a chance to win but had no support on this night.

 Post-game Press Conference

186237429_slideCoach Michel Therrien

  • “It was a bad performance by our team, it’s pretty simple. Every aspect of our game was not sharp. Five-on-five we were not sharp, special teams were not sharp. The only positive thing I could take was Carey Price was really solid. He gave us a chance to stick in the game.”
  • “I hope the kid (Michael Kostka) is all right, this is my first concern. But we’ll let the League evaluate that hit (by Douglas Murray.)”

Captain Brian Gionta

  • “You want home ice and you want to go into the playoffs feeling good about your game. We’ve got Saturday night to do that.”

Forward Thomas Vanek

  • “The coaches warned us that’s a young team, but I know a lot of those guys and they play hard … they came out hard and we were outplayed.”
  • “It’s no fun losing at this time, but sometimes you’re just not good enough. Tonight you’ve got to give them credit, and at the same time we sucked.”

Defenseman Mike Weaver

  • “We’ve just got to have a little amnesia.”

Islanders goaltender Evgeni Nabokov

  • “Usually goals are scored on momentum. The team has momentum, they get going and score a goal, then you get tired. But we never really put ourselves in that position.”

Islanders forward Matt Martin

  • “They played last night, so obviously we were a little bit fresher than they are and we’ve got some young legs in the lineup. I think we tracked [the puck] hard and didn’t give them much time in the neutral zone to make plays. They’re a transition team and have a lot of talent, but we limited our mistakes and when we did make them we came back hard.
