Game Recap:It was a night when we saw both the good sides and the flaws of the Canadiens. Peter Budaj’s positioning and rebound control was dreadful at times but then he made a great save on Phil Kessel. P.K. Subban scored the tying goal but showed little effort on James Van Riemsdyk’s breakway. Andrei Markov made an errant pass that started the play but tallied three assists and set-up the winning goal. David Desharnais and Max Pacioretty were to blame for the Kessel goal but Pacioretty scored the game-winner, his second of the night.

- “(I called the timeout because I) just wanted to calm down. We got on our heels. Obviously we gave up a power-play goal. That’s two games in a row. Our power-play was good but we can’t give up goals. We all understand that.”
- “I felt that the bench was really down after the third goal so I just wanted to make sure (to tell them) that there’s still a lot of hockey to be played. We were one goal away so let’s get back to the things that we were doing good and good things are going to happen to us. There were no signs of panicking. I think that the guys did a good job. They reacted really well.“
- “(I enjoyed the game) especially at the end when you win. It was a tense game, a fun game. We’re fortunate to be able to play those type of games. Our team was prepared to play that game. We were pushing the pace really hard when we started the game.”
- “[Alex Galchenyuk] is only 19 years old. We want to surround him with veteran players. Playing with (Tomas) Plekanec and (Brian) Gionta, you can’t ask for a young kid to be surrounded like that. Again tonight, he did a good job. I thought that he skated well. He’s learning really quick.”
- “The last three games [Lars Eller] was intense. This is a good line with Rene Bourque. They got size. At times we put Danny (Briere) there (on right wing.) It depends how the game goes and who they are playing (against), where the face-off is, … It all is all that stuff that we try to pay attention to but definitely Lars and Borky, they manage the puck well, they are tough to contain down low. This is a good sign for Lars.”
- On Carey Price: “He’s around. (He’s) day-to-day. They haven’t told me which day.”
- “I thought that (Danny Briere) was good again tonight. We’re playing him in a role that I think he’s capable to produce and create some offense. He’s playing on the second unit of the power-play and he’s playing center, right-wing and he’s a veteran, he’s been around and he knows (how) to adjust really quickly.”
- “They put a lot of pucks to the net. They were able to create a lot. Offensively they’re a good team, a really good team.”
Forward David Desharnais
- “They have way too much skill and we got lucky today, but it’s fun to play that game once in a while too.”
Goaltender Peter Budaj
- ”Every player has a good shot, but [Max Pacioretty] has an exceptional shot with his release. It’s how quick he can get it off in a game. Many guys have a great shot in practice, but in a game situation you have to get the shot off quick. He’s been able to do that. That’s the key. It’s not the hardest shot that beats the goalie, it’s the quickest.”
Maple Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle
- “We had a one-goal lead and we took three straight penalties. Now we can challenge the validity of the penalties one way or another, but we took three straight penalties, two of them specifically in overtime to go down 4-on-3.”
- “The call I have difficulty with is the (Tim) Gleason (interference) penalty (in the third period.) I was under the impression that if it was one, one-thousand you could take the player’s body if the player tries to make a play on it. But obviously, the way the referee saw it was different.”
