 Game Recap:

Last goal wins. It was a mistake-filled game with two goalies who really struggled. Peter Budaj was not tracking the puck well, was giving up big rebounds and had a weak glove hand but didn’t allow a goal by three Penguins skaters in the shootout. P.K. Subban was benched for part of the third period and overtime for poor decision-making and for giving no effort after a turnover which led to a goal.

 Post-game Press Conference

186237429_slideCoach Michel Therrien

  • “When you play Pittsburgh, you have to expect their power they got especially with their power-play. I thought that our team battled hard tonight. We came back four times.”
  • “I liked their spirit especially in a back-to-back game. We played last night, we came here (to Pittsburgh) late. I liked the energy of our club tonight.”
  • “We made some adjustments and Danny (Briere) played a good game, really productive. I liked the way he produced tonight, for sure.”
  • “We didn’t want to send their power-play on the ice. We took some questionable penalties. They’re the best power-play in the league. We tried to limit them but when they get a chance with the skill and talent that they got they’re tough defending.”
  • “They put a lot of pucks to the net. They were able to create a lot. Offensively they’re a good team, a really good team.”

Forward David Desharnais

  • “They have way too much skill and we got lucky today, but it’s fun to play that game once in a while too.”

Goaltender Peter Budaj

  • ”I would like to have some goals back, but we scored five goals against Pittsburgh. We have to learn from the mistakes we made. We have to keep going and getting better.”
  • “Credit to the team because they stuck with it, they battled for me and we got the two points.”

Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury

  • “I expected better. Give up five goals and in the shootout, I wasn’t in the right spot. I was crooked, not square. I don’t know, just disappointing.”
