 Game Recap:

It was an entertaining, wide-open game that saw the Canadiens have a lead with less than a minute to go only to lose in overtime.  Defensive coverage breakdowns were costly on the two goals against in regulation with a blunder in overtime by Peter Budaj resulting in the winning goal for the Blackhawks. It is certain now that the Habs will face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs with home-ice advantage still up for grabs.

 Post-game Press Conference

186237429_slideCoach Michel Therrien

  • “We were in a position to get two points, but I really liked the way we played. I thought we played a solid game.”
  • “I really liked the way we played. I thought that we were aggressive and we dictated (play) most part of the game. This is not an easy place to play, but our effort was there again.”
  • “(Corey) Crawford made a helluva save on (Max) Pacioretty with 20 seconds left, but they got the last one so it’s a big win for them.”
  • “I was impressed the way that [Josh Gorges] played after missing a month.”
  • Lars (Eller) was not feeling good when he showed up at the rink tonight. (Dale) Weise played a solid game and scored a big goal. For a guy who missed two weeks and a half, I thought that he skated well and made great decisions with the puck.”
  • “This is a group that is used to facing adversity. We had to face adversity because most of the game, for two periods,  we played with only 10 forwards and we responded well.”
  • “The last two goals (against) that’s bad coverage in front of the net. I’m sure that the winning goal, Peter (Budaj) would like to see the shot again but those things happen.”

Defenseman Josh Gorges

  • “We did a lot of good things out there. We lost focus a couple of shifts, where we made some mistakes and lost some coverage and that’s the difference. That just shows how quick a game can turn. I think we can learn a lot from this game because we played a good game, but good is not always good enough.”

Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford

  • “Those last eight minutes were unbelievable. We were buzzing around and it just felt like we were going to score there. It was a great finish to the game. That’s the way we have to play.”

Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville

  • “It was the first time all year we’ve scored an overtime goal in [22] games, [22] opportunities. [We’re] a pretty good team offensively, but to take this long to get one is certainly a relief and a huge two points for us. A nice comeback as well.
