 Game Recap:

For the second straight game the Canadiens won a game despite giving up 35+ shots and taking two-thirds of the game off.  While Carey Price was carrying the load, the netminder at the other end of the ice was being generous to the Habs.  It was an exceptional performance by Price with Brian Gionta, Lars Eller and Jarred Tinordi each having a two-point night.

 Post-game Press Conference

186237429_slideCoach Michel Therrien

  • “The only thing that I didn’t like is that we were on our heels a little bit. And that’s not the way we wanted to play. We tried to refresh the guys about the way we’re supposed to play.”
  • “It took [Alexei Emelin] some time and that’s normal. We were saying at the time that we were going to be patient with him.  We have a lot of confidence in him.  But lately, the last month, he’s been really good. Him and Andrei Markov, they’re a good pairing. They play well, they have a big mission. Emelin, he’s back where he was physically and tough to play against.”
  • We like the way that [Mike Weaver] plays. He’s got a lot of passion. He’s a stay-home defenseman, doesn’t do a lot of mistakes. He’s always in good position. He’s always got a good stick. He kills penalties, is always in the shooting lanes, sacrifices his body for the benefit of the hockey team. This is a great addition for us. The way that he plays, for me this is leadership. He fits really well with our club.
  • We have to play a lot tighter if we want to have long term success.”

Captain Brian Gionta

  • “We need that depth in scoring. That’s going to help us down the stretch run. We can’t just rely on one line. I think we are a much deeper team than that.”
  • “There’s parts of the game that kind of go up and down, whether it’s power play or killing penalties, but 5-on-5 has got to be consistent, and we’re trying to get back on track here towards the end of the season.”

Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock

  • “We didn’t give up tons of shots, but we gave up too many opportunities.
  • “We have to be better than we were tonight. I think we’ve been on a good run here where we played hard. I didn’t think there was a problem with our energy or our commitment to working hard tonight.”
