Carey Price will forever have his name etched as one of the greatest Montreal Canadiens ever. With win number 290, Price leaves Patrick Roy in his wake and now sets his sights on Jacques Plante, just 24 W’s to go. Some claim that the comparison to Roy is unfair. Maybe so. Let’s be honest. With all of the equipment advancements, no one in Roy’s era shot the puck like players can today.
Price set the milestone in style with a 33-save shutout, the 41st of his career. The Canadiens star goaltender ran his record against the Bruins to 25-11-5. Price needed to be at the top of his game from the drop of the puck. The Bruins dominated for the first five minutes of the game, unable to get out of their own zone. Price, without much help, weathered the storm allowing his team to get their skates under them.
Throughout the game, when the Canadiens coverage broke down in the defensive end, Price was there to make a big save on the Bruins snipers. And in doing so, he handed Boston their first loss on home ice this season. After seven starts, Carey Price has lost just one game in regulation this season, with a 2.13 goals against average, a .922 save percentage and one pretty special shutout. Yes, this young Canadiens team is exciting to watch. Youth and speed can be a blessing and a curse, setting the pace and exposing holes. And when the mistakes happened tonight against a very good Bruins squad, the Canadiens were fortunate to have Carey Price between the pipes, carrying the visitors to their sixth win of the year. === ▲ Carey Price, Artturi Lehkonen, Max Domi ▼ Nicolas Deslauriers, Matthew Peca |
