Game Report

With no margin for error, the Canadiens have bought themselves another game. At this point, each night is a must win. And tonight, it was Montreal’s team leaders who led the way.

Shea Weber and Brendan Gallagher put the only two goals past upstart Carter Hart.  Carey Price did not allow an even strength marker.

In the defensive zone, Weber punished Philly forwards delivering five solid hits. Price constantly frustrated Flyers attackers effectively moving the puck to his teammates who were able to exit the Habs end.

Canadiens nemesis T.J. Luxmore blew another call waiving off an early goal that should have counted. But the Habs persevered notching the game’s opening goal before the first period was over.

Montreal had an advantage in high danger scoring chances, 11-7. In a tightly-played game, Price was solid in stymying Flyers’ shooters.

What Did They Say?

 Post-game Quotes
Claude Julien
  • “We didn’t give them much for two periods, and we did good work up until that power play. I think we played well defensively. We could’ve scored some more goals with the chances we had, though. But, it’s a big win.”
  • “We needed this win. We’re not out of the woods yet. We have to keep on winning. We’re setting this game aside and thinking about the next one.”

Carey Price

  • “I think we got the result we deserved. If we play that way at both ends of the rink, we’ll end up on the winning side of things most of the time.”
Brendan Gallagher
  • “I think the guys played a good game tonight from start to finish. Pricey made some incredible stops. He was very calm. It definitely did some good, but we’re already thinking about the next game.”
  • “Our focus right now is on what we can control. We did good work tonight, but we have to think about the next game. We have to string together some wins. It’s a good start tonight, and we hope we can build on it.”
Shea Weber
  • “We knew that we had to play a full 60 minutes. I think we offered up a good effort. We would have liked to kill off their power play, but we still managed to get the job done tonight.”
