Game Report

It was the last visit to Brooklyn for the Canadiens with the Islanders set to play all of their games Nassau Coliseum next season until their new rink at Belmont Park is ready. The Barclays Center was never designed for hockey. The ice is often bad, sight lines aren’t great and the atmosphere is dead.

The Islanders are a defense first team and perform well at Barclays with a 7-0-3 record in the building this season. So it was extra important for the Canadiens to get out to a lead. Scoring three goals in the first period checked a few boxes for the visitors. 

A 3-0 lead heading into the second period didn’t nothing to bring confidence to Habs fans. Now, adding a fourth goal in the second was different. Montreal surely couldn’t blow a four goal lead after 40 minutes. 

Or could they?

Seventeen seconds into the third period, the red light went on behind Carey Price after the puck found its way into the net off the boot of Anders Lee. ‘Here we go again’ thought Habs fans.

But after review, the goal was waved off due to “distinct kicking motion.”

The four-goal lead proved insurmountable, this time. The Canadiens went on to play spoiler backed by 20-save performance by Carey Price. 

The Canadiens now head to Tampa where they will take on the Lightning on Thursday night.
